I'd be suprised if the game looked anything but crap at minimum spec, and even more suprised if it ran well at recommended. More than ever before pc developers are understating the hardware needed to run their games in order to attract more customers.

Swapping recommended with minimum I think will be more accurate.

1. Buy a new pc
or
2. Feed the kids

Make the kids get jobs, and take their paychecks to pay for the computer... then use your money to feed them.. If you've got any left.

I've got the recommended (minus Vista of course). But if previous games are any indicication for the performance I'll get, then I won't be able to max it out a decent resolution with any playable frame rate. I'd guess somewhere in the meduim-high settings at 1024x768 with about 20fps.

I agree with this.

Seagate 750 GB Barracuda SATA 3.0 GB/s 7200.10 Sells for $375.00 US

Seagate 3.0Gbps 400GB 7200RPM 16MB Barracuda 7200.9 Sells for $161.71 US

Hitachi 1.5Gbps 160GB 7200RPM 8MB Deskstar 7K250 Sells for $55.99 US

I am close with an Athlon XP 3000+ 2GB of RAM and a 6600gt. Hopefully though I'll be getting a new PC in a few days so I'll be good for another couple of years.

Still good news im ready to go for Crysis.

Not surprising at all. The requirements seem a little high, but to be fair, most people have been lagging behind in terms of CPU/RAM/HDD requirements.

I'm going to upgrade this holiday season and I'll be above the recommended then. I'm not really surprised though and I don't know what the fuss is about the requirements. They don't seem unreasonable to me, it's like when Epic first showed of UE3 and it chugged on a 6800 Ultra. It takes powerful hardware to render all that goodness.

The best thing is that it's not going to cost an arm and a leg to get it. Core 2 Duo starts sub $200 while the best deal is the 6600 for $300, and Ati and nVidia will be coming out with new and better cards which will drive down the price of existing ones.

I for one can't wait to play this game.

AntiAnto
24-07-2006, 05:49 AM
The problem I seem to percieve with this excessive necessity of upgrading my computer to play Crysis (for example) is that I do know it will be another FPS game with the same fundamental "ingredients". Shoot, cover, shoot more, change level, shoot again. The exorbitant gap between those requirements and those we need three-four years ago don't seem to be justified by the gameplay outcome. Better graphics, yes. Gaming evolution, not much imo.

Hahah yes it is, it's the best choice on many fronts.

Read this review, especially the last 3 pages.

Edit: By the time it comes out I will have a conroe E6600, 2gb ddr2 800, probably a nice dx10 card on par with the current 7900gt. A good mobo and cooler so I can overclock the E6600 from 2.4ghz to 4ghz if it's really needed. A very good soundcard (X-Fi extreme music) and extraordinarily good speakersetup. 720gb SATA2 storage.

I've got sorta the right spec, but get f*cked. Yes the game is awfully pretty, but the gameplay better take into account that a lot of people will be getting an interactive slideshow.

I'm so screwed, 512 MB of RAM, 2.5Ghz P4, 9800Pro!!
Hopefully I can buy a new comp next year.. Several people have advised that I don't now because I can only pay it via loan now and that means alot of interest rates.:(
Man I wanna try this game..

Hey guys, check your sources before getting excited. As has been linked in this thread, these "announced specs" come from this forum topic post: http://www.crysis-online.com/forum/index.php/topic,141.0.html

Now read it. Yes, also the part right below the specs. I'll quote it here:

The above specs are simply speculation
See? These specs are guesses, as good as yours and mine. They are not official, have not been announced by the dev or publisher, and are therefore complete speculation. Crysis-online's about page shows this isn't any official forum either: "This site is an Unofficial Crysis website and has no association with EA or Crytek."

It's especially amusing how all these ever-trustworthy newssites are running this bullshit as official specs. Let's do a quick tour: VE3D (http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/720/720538p1.html) doesn't note the unofficial nature of this stuff anywhere; same for ActionTrip (http://www.actiontrip.com/rei/comments_news.phtml?id=072406_3); EvilAvatar (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15404&) goes as far as saying crysis-online is "the official Crysis forum", funny how the official site is still under development (http://www.crysisgame.com/); even ShackNews (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/43029) falls into the trap; in fact, Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/23/is-your-pc-rig-ready-for-crysis/) is the only one I've seen noting that the specs are speculation.
Internet journalism truly has high standards.

Well I'm screwed...

It would seem largely pointless to play this game on low-spec especially considering what you could have with a higher spec system :(

Maybe this will be the game that pushes people to move to Vista and get a DX10 card.

This game is not made by DICE, so im sure there will be a great tweak guide available upon release. Also even if u have to play with sum or most settings on LOW im sure the game will still look & play wonderfull.

Plus with AMD in the CPU price drops this game will be a steal to play with.

Hmm actually, I don't know what the fuss is about really. Remembering back to the first time Doom III Half life 2 and FarCry were introduced there were similar outcrys of "zomg I'm just above minimum specs" about 6 months before they actually came out, so thats about right.

Except of course we had extra time with HL2 to get better cheaper upgrades because of the immense delay.

But that was around 2 and a half years ago though. To upgrade every two and a half years is asking alot for the casual gamer. I remember the last time i upgraded before Half-Life 2 came out was back in 1999, and i could still run games decently. I don't really know how, but i managed.

Not to mention that Crysis, albeit incredibly good-looking, isn't a successor to a game that defined the genre like Half-Life or Doom. (There's few people that would argue it is, but there are definitely more people that would argue Half-Life and Dooms influence on the genre has been much much bigger.)

People are still acting as if they're official specs, or alternatively as if the news that Crysis will probably require a monster machine is in any way surprising. I don't think anybody needs random speculation posted all over the web as fact to "realise Crysis will eat up current PCs and spit out the rest"...yet people were still going "oh shit, we're screwed" or "omg that's evil".
