I was a bit iffy about the cartoony style to begin with, but it's definitely grown on me. Personally, I think the Pyro looks the best. :D

WOOOT WOOOT....

No miniature soldiers...but that doesn't kill the fun...(Maybe if the mooding goes well I'll make a miniature-soldiers map)

But It look so cool...and new...The characters are great...Animations are superb. Humor is defenitly getting attention lately in Valve HQ.

SuperB A must see....
This is why Valve will remain the best game-develloper in many years to come.
They keep trying new things...

Congratulations to Valve for another amazing concept...I have no doubt TF2 will be worth the wait...

guess you are right about the 2fort bit, certainly the bridge and the two entrances + snipers nest give it away. The scout and spy parts weren't obvous to start with but they definitely resemeble the bottom area near the flag

Great teaser, thought we would get Episode 2 footage today tho.

Looking superb, love the Medic's rubber gloves :D

I still wonder if the motion blur/DoF is actually possible in game or if it's just a post process effect.

And LOL @ the Soldier's introduction.

Pretty impressive. The way the spy slinks around, it's so fluid. I can't believe this is the Source engine. Valve's done an impressive thing here. I am significantly more accepting (and one might even say hyped up) of this now. The shading, the animation, the pyro's flames, and the chance that the soldier might come with a shovel for melee...this might turn out awesome.

It's definitely rendered by the engine. It's not gameplay footage however.

It's the Source engine though. That was confirmed when someone asked if the promo picture was taken in-game or if it was a render. It's the engine, and even if it's not exactly what we see, it's mighty impressive anyway. It's Source's capability that I'm awed by.

he's ready to give you an enema! :o

this game seems to be having a big chunk of pixar influence. it's already fun just to watch the introduction of the characters, cause it has this flair of a good animated flick. this game leads us into another era of computer gaming, where it's not about worlds of war to save human mankind, and sqauds of demons straight from hell, it brings back the silly attidude of funny, unrealistic, and colorful games which have no scale to go by (that is, also within the game!). maybe tf2 turns out as your harmless comic book you read as a kid wrapped up into a virtual playground.

if only a game like team fortress 2 had the power to nail responsible "experts" of media and communication who don't see us as gamers, but people who join the dark side of life - that this example strengthens the argument to play videogames, more precisely shooters. and fps aren't any virus for our society, they offer interactive, emotional involvement - they're actually as comical as team fortress 2. the only difference is the fact that tf2 represents it optically (most likely beyond that), whereas other shooters stand for the same picture, opponents of the "new media" just have to get the whole picture. :( well... let's hope it actually will be this kind of "batman series back in the '60s" fps. eventually! :D

I think he's standing on flagrun.

That thing with the 2 on it, and the small window on the top, looks like the tower where they kept the middle flags in flagrun.

That, or the new version of well, although the main entrance (with the stairs) looks a bit small.

This looks SO damn awesome. I wasn't expecting it to look anything like this at all and the change is a great thing in my opinion, suits the game very well.
I also didn't expect it to be out so soon either, i was expecting it to be out a year later after the announcement. Go VALVe! :D

Also... is that motion blur i see? Reckon thats just something they put in to make the movie look better or might it be in-game? :O

I think it quite possibly could be used in-game since Portal has some gameplay footage that shows Motion Blur. I also think Episode 2 is using DOF and Motion Blur.

that would be awesome, like instead of a person just standing there slighly moving cuz of the whole "breathing" motion, they could do something like the engineer slamming his wrench in his hand, but that would mean the player owuld have to have the wrench selected....unless theres an idle motion for each player.....time will tell.

btw trailer is up on steam

The graphics are great and all and I'm sure the gameplay will be fun but I really didn't like the trailer. It looks to me like they're trying too hard be funny. Pixar movies like The Incredibles and stuff are great because they had funny dialogue and situations, not just because of thier animation style. I doubt TF2 will be funny. The situation will probably be a bunch of guys running around shooting each other and the dialogue will include morons saying "lol gtfo fag nub!11!!" like you can expect you can expect in any online game, or anywhere else on the internet for that matter. If this was a single player game it would work out great; knowing Valve there would be funny lines, memorable characters, crazy setpieces etc. But with an MP game I just feel it's lame, unless things like the soldier's giant hands are enough to make you laugh.

somthin intresting i read about the engineer:

Some things were added afterwards (as quoted earlier) because the means to have them in-engine isn't completed yet, however they are being worked on. Things like self-shadowing (notice the soldier when he hits himself?) are going into Ep2 - Source engine has been improving with each episode, which is nice. What you see here is most likely what it will actually look like, to within a reasonable degree, however it's likely to be November before we see a release of it, so things could still change yet.

A couple of more things for those interested:

And garry from garry's mod has apparently said (I haven't had a chance to ask him directly yet as I'm at work) that the engineer is based on garry's mod, you don't just bam and a sentry appears, you have to make it from things you find in the spawn.

The quote is just that, the bit "from garry" is as yet unconfirmed.

Remember when

***Spoiler***

Alyx crossed that bridge, and makes it just in time ?

I thought that was a clear example of motion blur. It could have been a regular dx9 shader, though.

*edit: can't seem to find anything about it on the net, so I'm probably wrong.

Here's a question.

Will the console versions of HL2 and Ep1 be implementing these graphical techniques?

If they are, I simply hope we'll be seeing them.

wlodi

Of course, it's a regular shader, it's not motion blur. It's the same effect they used in Citadel Core..

Will the console versions of HL2 and Ep1 be implementing these graphical techniques?
That's a good question. Since Valve states these effects are next-gen Source, I'm pretty sure they'll use these effects to make console versions more beautiful.
