I used to like his stuff back in the late 90s...

Haven't listened to any of his new stuff.

I've noticed that he doesn't use his vocal range as much as he used to. Let's take Beautiful People and Sweet Dreams as examples ('cause EVERYONE has heard those). In those songs, he altered his voice from angry, loud, coarse, soft, creepy and clean. With his most recent stuff, he's mainly doing the first three on the list and that's why I think some of his newer songs haven't been as successful. Sure there's more problems with the sound of his newer music, but I feel he needs to go back to making his voice sound more interesting.

He needs Trent Reznor to spin his shit into gold.

Wasn't Trent Reznor the producer for Antichrist Superstar?

Beautiful People, Sweet Dreams, and Personal Jesus are the best. The rest is garbage.

He sucks, tries too hard to shock people and his music is nothing but re-hashed riffs and lyrics about how Jesus is gay or whatever shocks people

I don't believe I've ever heard him. I've seen photos, I think.

'Nuff said.

The only song of his I listen to (on occasion) is "Beautiful People". I can't stand the rest of his songs, videos, whatever. He sounds like an NIN derivative, but far more loud, obnoxious, and attention-craving. His entire gimmick has rested on being shocking. That's fun for a while. But an entire career based on that shit?

His career? I totally agree. It is bullshit. Shock value bullshit.

Again, he needs Trent Reznor to make his material worthwhile. Otherwise, he's a deflated, empty, pretentious crap, but without the excellent production.

I like the artwork he does.

He's got a few good songs here and there.

yes he was.

i haven't looked that deeply into Manson's work but i wouldn't be all that surprised if Trent was behind the earlier artwork.
and its well documented how much Trent was involved in most of Manson's early music/lyrics/style.

since Trent no longer helps him, Manson has not produced anything for people to notice unless you happen to be a hardcore Manson fan.

I still think Mechanical Animals is a pretty good album, but yeah, he is generally pretty shit. However, I saw him at Reading Festival (I was waiting for Iron Maiden to come on) it and he put on one hell of a show.

I don't really care for much of his actual music, but I love his writing. He's an exceedingly intellignet guy and hearing him talk is a lot of fun because he's ridiculously interesting.

I think what he said to Michael Moore about him getting the blame for Columbine was good too:

Moore: If you were to talk directly to the kids at Columbine or the people in that community, what would you say to them if they were here right now?
Marilyn Manson: I wouldn't say a single word to them, I would listen to what they have to say and that's what no one did.

He's extremely talented, but not with a style I like.

I like a few of his songs, but I don't listen to him that often. I like the sound but not so much on the lyrics. Victim is right, though; just listening to an interview of him is really, really interesting.

Isn't his IQ in the 130s or '40s?

as far as all his early albums go, Trent was a big, big, part of that...as for intelligence? he could be intelligent but yeah he is definitely an interesting interview.

The only song I really like of his is "The Fight Song"
