Yes i realised this the first time I heard the song. The funny thing is that the same producer produced both albums so the fact that he didnt realise is a big problem on his part. Also, petty is on the warner lable as is peppers so he might not want to sue. I think in the end they will settle.

Apparently the Petty song has been sped up and the entire version is totally different, anyone heard the full song? It's only that riff that sounds similar. I call bullshit.

Yeah, its close, but there are a lot of songs that contain similar chord progressions. Tom should try to mellow out some more...if that's humanly possible! :laugh:
