Hey, I just bought a brand new computer, pentium D 3.20ghz, 2gb ram and a geforce 6500 graphics card, the first game I installed was obviously HL2 and after getting through the steam rigmarole I finally settled down to play HL2, however after clicking 'launch game' the screen went black and my whole computer restarted, which is well annoying, I've tried again multiple times with the same result. I've got 78.01 drivers on my nvidia card (the latest ones won't install for some reason.. .'can't find hardware') or maybe it's something to do with the processor... I don't know.... can anyone help with this?
Thanks
Andy

well step one of troubleshooting with hl2 is 'verify your files'! ;)
right click on the game in steam and go to properties...
let us know if that doesnt works and we'll come up with something else

Thank you, Ok I just did the 'verify my files' thing, launched the game and actually got through the intro movies to the blurry main menu load screen, then my computer re-started again. I don't know what's causing this problem

Ah, the problem has been solved. I downloaded the guru3d 83.42 drivers (or something like that) for my geforce card, restarted my new comp and launched half life2, ran like a dream!
got all the way to 'black mesa east' in about 40 mins.... runs so fast now compared to my old pc...
cheers for the help dude

When the CPU Usage is at 100% and can't take any more "A.K.A" running out.
