I am personally still in love with GeForce but ATI is looking good. The poll isn't meant just for Halflife2, I meant in general.

I have a 9600PRO, so ATI all the way. I had a geforce b4 and really like nvidia was gonna get a FX but after the benchmarks ATI was better

I was with nvidia since the Riva128. Then TNT, Geforce. But now I have a Radeon and I'm happy.
Let's see what the future might bring...

Seriously - do we need another thread about this?
So what, the new NVidia card is crap - who cares, all their old ones were great. Most of ATi's old cards were crap but no one cares now because NVidia made a mistake. I personally think NEITHER is better. If i were to buy a new card now it would be a 9800, 9800 pro or 9800XT. Wait a month or so though and NVidia will come out with a new card that is better, then ATi, then Nvidia, yadda yadda yadda.

My nvidia gf2 was great, and my gf4 was even better, now I have an 9800 pro because in my opinion its the best option.
So as of this minute ATI.
( Im sure nvidia are busy working away to change this )

ati used to be dominated by nvidia, however with better support for its products and more frequent driver updates and better performing cards, ati is the clear leader at this point. I used to use voodoo cards, then geforce cards up to a geforce 3, now i have a 9800 pro and am very happy :D end of story

ATI is so much better the Nvidia. Let's face the fact that all Nvidia cards out on the market right now are really for DX8 titles. But, ATI kicks so much butt in DX9. Just think of it this way. ATI released the Radeon 9700 Pro(first DX9 card) even before DX9 was out! Now that's dedication. I mean the Radeon 9600 Pro even beats the 5900 Ultra! So LOL @ NVIDIA!!!

Well Nvidia definetly slipped up, not sure where but their cards and quickly turning to crap and have been for some time now. The card I have, GF4 Ti4600 will probably be the last card I ever buy from Nvidia. Looks to be Ati from here on out.

I prefer nVidia because of their superior Linux support. ATI's Linux drivers are pretty much broken.

why would you say something like that....you're saying no matter what you'll never buy nvidia again no matter how good their products are?
i always buy what will last me the longest before an upgrade. that usually goes hand in hand with performance. and then of course money.
right now the 9800 pro has the best price/performance/longevity combination. none of the nvidia cards are good at dx9, which limits their usefulness in the near future.
i don't have a preference for ATI or nvidia....or Intel / AMD for that matter. having a preference is silly. just buy the better product.
right now that's ATI :P

I had a Voodoo1 for Quake. At that time 3dfx was the bomb.
I then got a Geforce3 for Quake 3. At that time Nvidia was the bomb.
I will soons be getting a Radeon 9800pro for Doom 3 and Half-Life 2. Right now ATI is the bomb.
So I think we need an "all of the above" option.

Having a preference isn't silly its called my choice and I believe we all have that atleast the last time I checked. Given how poorly their cards run with DX9 and the scandals with 3DMark it isn't worth the money to invest into a company that does things this way. It isn't even really a preference, its called smart shopping.

Hercules Prophet 9800 Pro 128 here. Was with nVidia all the way up to my previous card, a Creative GeForce 3. Went with ATi this time as the benchmarks blew the 5900/5900 Ultra away.

ati better directx9 . nvidia directx9 sux. There are very few games( hl2 the only one i know of) that are so directx9 oriented. Beyond hl2 it is still a tight competition with nvidia leading in many areas.
edit: its not like hl2 gives you any choice like hl1 did.
WTF!! DjBourgeoisie stole my avatar!! FFS!! :(
Back on topic: ATi for evah!
I vote for Ati.
I have been doing a ton of research during the past couple of months and Ati has gotten the best reviews. Better picture quality. Full support for Direct x 9
I received my computer as a gift in 2000 which came with a Nvidia Vanta LT graphics card. But I'm saving up my money in order to buy an Ati Radeon 9800 (either a Pro or XT).

In this generation of cards ATI all the way. I'm so pleased I bought a 9800pro, it was only because of careful research I didn't get the FX5900. After all the obfuscation of it's true performance it's going to take a lot for Nvidia to win my trust back next time they do produce a good card.

Agreed, they are creating a hell of a job for themselves in regaining the trust of their customers.

Even with DX 8 Games the FX cards often get better frame rates agreed, but the image quality is very poor compared to the ATI cards. Also the start of next year is going to see a rash of DX9 supported games.

9700 pro, IMO it's the best bang for your buck right now. (But I bought it back when it came out for aprox. $400 US -- 600 CDN).
EDIT: Unless you overclock, of course.
EDIT # 2: And the $400 US is when I bought it 7 months ago, it costs a whole lot less now. :P

it's amazing what these little benchmark reports has done to nvidia's reputation (with hl2 fans)
ati was getting many of the same types of "scandal" things not too long ago (optimizing for benchmarks/games...terrible drivers, etc)
the pendulum swings...

if the 9600XT outpreforms the 9700 pro like ati says it should...it'll be a hell of a buy...$199 for hl2 + a card that runs it well...
