Now THIS is a demo worth downloading! Well, I'll probably try the console port and the flying one too. :)

I didn't like either of them sadly, but most people seem to like condemned. Nice sig BTW
It has been a while since I have played a decent RTS, I hope this doesn't let me down but I am afraid it might. Guess we will find out soon enough.

I just don't get these games. *Yawn* It's like if you haven't been playing them from the beginning back in 1985 theres no way you can figure out WTF is happening.
I don't like any game that takes more than 3 hours to figure out if you are going to like it or not. By the time you start figuring out how to play you realize you don't even like the game.
These games insult my intelligence. You don't even play, you click the mouse on a troop and suggest to him where to move or what to do, etc. BLEH Mouse click madness.
Mostly, I can't stand games where I have to click to move. I prefer having full real-time control.
I realize that they are really popular and allot of people like them so for now I won't wish they would stop making them. Just for you *wink*

Err... you're too kind? :p
This looks interesting to say the least... Rise of Nations was pretty damn fun.
One of the more hectic RTSes I've played in a awhile.

You can get it from filefront here (http://files.filefront.com/Rise+of+Legends+Demo/;4936000;;/fileinfo.html)
The gamespot links were horribly slow for me.

I might grab this if I can find a link my download accelerator will accept...
The Filefront version claims its 5.69 megs, and has been downloaded 0 times :| I don't think it's working for me at this exact moment...

I got the same thing, they seem to have pulled it off since. This is depressing.
Try gamershell. I am getting a decent speed off of their european servers. And this is a zipped file that seems to be the correct file size so I am hoping it will work.

Can you report back when and if it does work?

Sure, I still have an hour to go though.
EDIT: The gamershell download did work.

This is definitely a beta of some sort.
-Badly optimized(Running it on low)
-Poor animations(very stiff animations)
-No sounds for alot of units(!)
+Gameplay's great, plays like the original RoN.
+UI's easy to navigate.

Yeah it was definately unfinished, but I really enjoyed it. I will probably pick this one up when it comes out.

Hmm, downloaded and installed twice and every time I get an error popup:
"The procedure entry point WMCreateSyncReader could not be located in the dynamic link library WMVCore.DLL."
OS conflict? Dodgy .exe? Either way I'm pissed off.

This game is crap. What happened to the little start with a villager then build up an army?
I played the campaign mission and it's just a right-click-on-badguy-fest.
The graphics don't look half as good as all the screenshots that have been released.

I'm not really big on fantasy. I'd prefer a RoN2.

To be honest I didn't like it at all... I mean, its okay for an AOE style of game, but I really don't like the way these games are coded...ie with air units just basically being ground units with no real flight dynamics that just float around and 500 ton tanks turning around on a dime and infantry just standing there and shooting. Chris Taylor I think put it very well, "rock paper scissors". I prefer simulated battlefields like total annihilation or the upcoming supreme commander, where real ballistics, physics and flight dynamics are taken into account and units are scaled realistically. Although old-style RTS like these will be around for quite a long time to come, I hope that the majority of developers in the future try the simulated battlefield type gameplay.
Another thing, I can see that the game is fantasy, but really if I wanted to play a "technology vs. magic" style game (which by the way I find extremely interesting) I would want the technological race to use reasonably advanced technology ala starcraft or even modern battlefield technology. Having a bunch of 17th/19th century style units running around with rediculous da-vinci technology simply does not interest me.

Damn it all...
I was playing as the Vinci in skirmish, fighting against another Vinci on the hardest difficulty...
I've nearly beaten them, sending a Clockwork Mech type dude-rush... and the ****ing game crashes x.x'...
Why the hell don't they have quicksave or whatever? Do they expect people with lives to sit down for 3 hours nonstop playing the demo? >.<
It's really annoying to have to pause the game and minimize when you want to do something else.
OOOOHHH this is the Rise of Legends demo thread and not the Tomb Raider: Legends thread. I suddenly realised when you started mentioning skirmishes and rock-paper-scissors stuff.
I'm guessing you can't help me with the block puzzle on the first level? :(
