If the faces look like that ingame...I think I may have trouble shooting them.

If you think 100% they'll look like that ingame, you're a bloody naive fool..
It's just like the PS3 techdemo they had of the face off that badass octopus dude from Spiderman 2, it's ONLY A FACE not in any ingame environment full with weapons, soldiers etc, there'll be a huge difference on a body and with 5 of these faces, lightning, softshadows etc, if they actually look like that in the final game, then I'll be amazed.:)

I know they won't look like that in game. You can even see in some of the screens (the zombies and the people loading the ship) the faces don't look nearly that good.

That's the first thing that really impressed me this year.

Problem is it's difficult to tell how good they look in the vids and gameplay screens because we havn't seen any real close ups in the first person perspective and they are probably using a different LOD over distances, so how can anyone possibly say they won't look that good in game when we havn't had a chance to get uplcose to have a good look.

I'm going to stick a bet that is the level of detail ingame when you get upclose to a character.

I didn't say they won't, but I said if they'll do, then that'll be one hell of an achievement imo.:)
And if that's the LOD transistion, I hope it's not all too noticable, I notice in some recent games LOD transistions are far too noticable..

I hope transitions are subtle too, *cough* oblivion, only ugly thing about it imo.

I still don't see how they are that impressive. They look very nice, but its nothing mindblowing. Maybe I'm just a noob.

I don't belive the faces one and won't until I see it in game. With my eyes they look real, or photoshoped up faces. I can't belive it.

I hope that gun model is a placeholder, it just looks out of place with everything else

The reason why they look so realistic is because of the lighting and the texture work; we're just not used to seeing realistic lighting employed on characters and the textures add personality to the them - blemishes, scars, wrinkles, subtle tone differences and a bit of subsurface scattering helps to recreate skin in a believable way.

They aren't perfect though, for example if you look at the top edge of the black guy's head...see the point? Literally. If they weren't making in-game models they could have just added a few more polygons. When the faces are animated I think they will lose their magical-ness as lip-synching probably won't be perfect. Although when you are shooting them from a distance, it's going to be pretty realistic :D
