Draw distances are overrated anyway IMHO. If any of you are runners, you'll understand when I say that I much prefer running through forests and canyons and such as opposed to huge open plains or even rolling hills because it feels like you are actually getting somewhere. With such a vast distance ahead of you, like on the plains or a long open road, it always seems like you have such a long way to go and no matter how long you run, it doesn't look like you've run all that far.

The same goes for games. I don't mind that you can't see for 16 miles. There aren't that many days when clear visibility is 16 or more miles in RL anyway, so not being able to see all of Oblivion's world doesn't bother me in the least.

Its still better than virtually all other games out thee now, so everyone just releax and enjoy. :)

look at it this way - blurry vision = natural anti-aliasing. Think of the extra fps you will get as you don't need AA enabled :eek:
plus you can enable HDR (a pointless effect i can't be arsed with) if you're so inclined.

Basically, to run the game maxed, you'll need a
3 GHz processor+, 2 gigs of low-latency RAM and an X1800XT+ or equalivent.:)
Not sure if a 7800GT will run it maxed, sorta doubt it, but it will run it on very high settings none the less.
I don't have that kind of computer(Yet) so I'm getting the 360 vers for now, PC later.
On a side note, there is ONE way the PC vers is graphically inferior to the 360 one..

From grahf1942 on elder scrolls forum (which seems down atm).

"Oblivion will do both AA and HDR because it uses a special simulated HDR technique which is compatible with AA on all DX9 video cards, including Nvidias"

From what I understand, Oblivion didn't utilize the Far Cry method of HDR (OpenEXR?) but instead created their own when they started in 2002. Previously, only ATi x1800 / 1900 could run both HDR and AA on OpenEXR but since Oblivion utilizes it's own HDR program none of this matters.

AiM, I know, but recently Bethesda stated otherwise, that no matter what GPU, ATI or nVidia, won't be able to run it with both HDR and AA..
So perhaps it didn't work out as they wished..
This was said just a few days before or was it after it went Gold, so I doubt it has changed.. We'll have to wait and see tho.

Many games I have played when you turn you lose frames pretty badly anyway. Other games do a "more realistic" turn but they end up looking foolish while they turn becuase their feet do this wierd tap dance and just never seem to move right.

Hmm, I wasn't aware that all the cities in Oblivion are stored in seperate cells, that's apparently why they removed levitation, because it to quote the devs "Just wouldn't look right if you flew over the city walls".
I wonder if the next ES game will incorporate something like that that the UE3 is supposed to do, i.e. calculating where the player is headed and in real time loading that part of the world or w/e.:)

Don't be so superficial - the gameplay is amazing. Personally I don't like third person or other features that are common in many games, but I don't immediately diss something over a stupid feature.

Now that I said that - perhaps if you wern't so rash in your judgement, maybe you would have discovered (or asked) that you can switch between 1st and 3rd person.

AmishSlayer, I linked to these a while back in this thread I believe, and yes, they're from an OL' OL' beta build, September last year, so don't get excited by the softshadows coming from objects/scenery in some of the pics..
By the way, is it just me or did the E3 demo itself with the dungeon cell not only seem to have softshadows, but also alot higher resolutions on the walls etc?

If you took oblivion & downgraded the graphics "technology" to Morrowind level, but kept the general art direction. What I mean is reduced poly counts, reduced the resolutions of the textures, simplified effects, fewer grass/shrubs - it would still look amazing. We were all drooling over thsoe first screen-shots & it's obviously progressed a bit since then.

I played a bit of Morrowind yesterday and I'm surprised that it runs worse than BF2 on my PC. While BF2 is mostly smooth on my medium (low for lightning) settings, Morrowind on max (still looking worse of course than BF2) is not smooth at all in open areas with people walking around. I'm comparing these two games because they both have a vast world to render. I can compare it to Far Cry as well, running smooth and nice on my PC.

My friend told me it's probably that the technology in newer games is optimized more for my PC, but still I can play older games without a problem.

Just read the Pete Hines interview from last night's update, which cleared up the 3 main worries i had - adjustable draw distance slider, resolution support (1280x1024 is the native res of my TFT, a lot of games ignore this res, which always irritates me), and the unnecessity (is that a word? it is now) of an optimizer like with morrowind.

So even if I have to crank everything back to play this game, it's gonna run smooth :)

Not that impressed really. I want to be able to jump and slash like the monsters at least.

This game is starting to look more and more like a first person guildwars. Which certainly isn't bad, but it's not what I was expecting graphically after all the lush screenies. Also that water looks naf close-up, even Morrowind water looked more realistic, in my opinion.

Still, small gripes, and tomorrow is the day :D
I want to see reviews on this site as soon as you've played it (I can't get it until the end of the week...)

Whoa! Can you create those with a spell or something? Maybe you can find all of the right parts and build mechs too then! I can't wait to see what the radiant AI does with my Giant Robot! (<---All of this is, of course, in jest.)

Maybe I will just cast a spell on some NPCs and have them clean my house(s) and yard(s). Once I become a vampire I will hopefully have an army of darkness with which to wreak havoc!

well i've downloaded the latest nvidia driver, the construction set, and defragged in prep for friday. Hopefully somebody will have posted lots of screenies by then, maybe even a movie or two - like Stern i'm still looking forward to the game, and i'm going to get it no matter what. Besides, i've got nothing else to play and i'm bored.

Hazar.. Errm, max level depends on the character you create.. If you didn't know that..
For example, a Imperial Knight with The Shadow as sign get a max level of 45.:)
