Is Soundblaster Live! 5.1 too crappy for this game?

I have a decent setup:

P4 2 Ghz
1 GB RAM
80 GB HD
500 Watt PS
GeForce 6800 256 MB RAM graphics card
Soundblaster Live! 5.1

My sound pops sometimes, and sometimes people repeat what they say, especially when I move into a room or the like.

I really love the atmosphere of the game, but the buggy sound is damaging the experience. Would getting a new soundcard help? I imagine they're cheap--any recommendations?

Updating the drivers hasn't helped.

No, it's alright. But Creative sound cards sometimes have these kinds of issues with HL2. Try playing with your onboard sound card.

And the voice repeating may also be caused by FPS lag.

Remember to uninstall old driver first and reboot system before you install new driver.
