For now, I only plan to upgrade my video card and RAM.
I still got 'till Sept to decide on a video card. I was planning on a 9700 pro, but prices for the 9800 and 5900 should get lower by Sept.

This July my parents are buying me an Alienware as a present. Since it's the last computer they'll ever buy for me (because I'll have a job soon), they said they don't care about the price. Therefore, I've loaded my Alienware with all the high-end goodies a gamer will love:
Note: I used a Pentium IV because it has a larger FSB and is currently faster than the fastest AMD Athlon. Normally I would buy an AMD but since price is not an issue I'm just going with the fastest available CPU.
Alienware Desktop Specs:
- 2-Year AlienCare Toll-Free 24/7 Phone Support with Onsite Service
- (BLACK) Alienware Full-Tower Case (420-Watt PS)
- (ASTRAL BLUE) AlienIce™ Video Cooling System
- Alienware Cable Management System
- Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB w/ 512KB Cache & HT
- Intel® Desktop Board D875PBZ - Intel 875P Motherboard
- 1GB DDR Corsair XMS SDRAM PC-3200 - 2 x 512MB Module
- 80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Serial ATA 8MB Cache
- (BLACK) Plextor PlexWriter Premium 52x32x52x CD-RW
- NVIDIA GeForce™ FX 5900 Ultra 256MB 8x AGP w/DVI & S-Video
- Sound Blaster® Audigy 2 Platinum - 6.1 w/Drive Panel
- Intel® PRO/1000 MT Gigabit Desktop Adapter
- Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
- (BLACK) NEC 17" MultiSync FE771SB Flat CRT
- (BLACK) Creative MegaWorks THX® 5.1 550
- (BLACK) Microsoft Internet Keyboard
- Logitech MX 500 w/ Steelpad 4S
- Plantronics DSP 500 USB Headset
- Plantronics Audio .90 Soundcard Input Headset (for DJing)
- Belkin Universal UPS 800VA
- AlienAdrenaline: Video Performance Optimizer
- 3DMark®03 Pro
And a free T-shirt (WHITE) :bounce:
This would be a HUGE improvement over my current specs:
- AMD Duron 1.2ghz
- Asus A7V (the original one)
- 512mb PC133 SDRAM
- NVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti200
- Aureal Vortex 2 A3D Soundcard (REALLY OUTDATED)

Damn, Miasma. You're lucky you don't have a budget to work with. It's hard as hell to keep my Alienware relatively cheap. Course, I'm getting those really nice $200 headphones with mine (I'm an audiophile, what can I say?), so that sets me back a little bit. Anyway...yeah. My CURRENT PC is kinda pitiful.
P3 733 MHz
128 MB RAM (not quite sure what type)
Geforce 2 MX 400
30 GB HD
Sound Blaster Audigy
Ahhh...can't wait for my Alienware.

Organic Pentium 10 evolving at 3.0GHz/second^2 with matched organic Intel motherboard constantly growing and routing faster bandwidth pipes using controlled nonlocality. ATI Flare 10000, rendering an entire universe in realtime with 5 sentient species in it. Molecular access points for unlimited holographic information storage. Creative Audio's MindBlaster sound module. All audio/visual/kinetic information will be routed directly to my mind.
If you've read up to here, I am truly sorry. I had to post after I saw the words "Everyone's Future Comp". I thought you meant the year 2050AD.

Well im not planning to upgrade until intel break the 4GHz barrier. At the same time intels roadmaps point to that bieng broken nvidia should have released the NV45 on us all so thats what im getting.
I am going to upgrade this week.. and after that I am going to upgrade when AMD has released the Athlon 64 4300+ rating (fall or summer 2004).. hopefully the r500 is out at that time

If I was going to build a dream machine it would have a dedicated RAID 5 controller with at least three 15000rpm drives. 36gb or larger each. Disk I/O is one of the most common bottlenecks in systems. A three drive config would "double" physical performance and provide a backup (parity drive). This configuration on servers has performed wonders over built in drive controllers.
I would also want a video card that truly could output to a hdtv 1920x1080i and record/playback HDTV content.

Does it matter? By the time you upgrade, you will find something that is better and faster, and on, and on she goes.
