No Team Fortress 2 Updates Until Next Year
Posted @ 11:20 PM, October 15 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Team Fortress 2
Yup, Valve are not planning on releasing any new class update for Team Fortress 2 this year, marketing VP Doug Lombardi has informed Shacknews.
Well, it won't be this year," said Lombardi when asked about the next update. "But we're going to keep evolving TF2. Once Left 4 Dead wraps, you'll hear us clamoring more about [Team Fortress 2].
Lombardi partially attributed the prolonged wait to the impending release of Left 4 Dead, which saw contributions from numerous Team Fortress 2 team members as development of Left 4 Dead entered the final stages. Oh well, I'm sure Left 4 Dead gonna keep us busy for a long long time.

Team Fortress 2 Updates Coming To Xbox 360 Later This Year, Gonna Cost You
Posted @ 6:37 PM, August 22 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Team Fortress 2
Looks like 360 gamers will finally get their Team Fortress 2 updated, that means new, class-specific Achievements, new unlockable weapons for the Pyro, Medic and Heavy, new gameplay modes and new maps, all on your Xbox 360. The down side is Valve being forced to charge for the update.
Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi got that piece of business out of the way just before our latest Left 4 Dead demo, saying that the developer wanted to build up a massive update for Xbox 360 users before delivering. Given that Valve is being forced to charge for the update, they wanted to ensure that 360 owners were getting their money's worth.
I'm sure it's gonna worth it. Oh and still no word on the PS3 version.

GC08: New Gabe Newell Interview
Posted @ 12:35 PM, August 21 2008, By: DigiQ8 In HL2: Episode 3, Left 4 Dead, News, Team Fortress 2
Videogaming247 had an interview the Valve's boss Gabe Newell to talk about Left 4 Dead, Episode Three ,peer-to-peer functionality, how Steam is planned to contain apps like Firefox, and how the Wii is awesome.
Functionality and services.
One of the things we’d like to do is to understand what types of applications people have on their PCs. For example, if a whole bunch of people are running Firefox, then make sure that’s one of the applications they can get through Steam.
There are community features that we want to continue to add. There’s peer-to-peer functionality: the community has this tremendous amount of bandwidth. There’s a whole bunch of content that they’re downloading right now, and being able to replicate that throughout the community using peer-to-peer would be a really good idea. What they need is a structured interface on top of that so they can find the content that everybody’s already downloading. Those are the kind of things we’re looking at.

New Team Fortress 2 Gamemode: TF2 Arena
Posted @ 7:48 PM, August 18 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2
Monday's slightly delayed "A Heavy Update" finally makes it's way to us, with the new gamemode announced as Arena mode. The mode promises to be much more tactical, with shorter rounds and intense fighting in smaller environments.
Arena features smaller maps that play out in shorter periods of time. The round ends once one team has no players left in the arena, or when the central capture point has unlocked and been captured. Rounds tend to be very fast and highly competitive, with an emphasis on your team’s class makeup and your plan to counter the opposing team’s class choices. Arena mode is great for smaller matches of three vs. three players, while still comfortably supporting huge knockdown twelve-on-twelve brawls.
We will also be treated to 5 new maps supporting this new mode, 3 of which are the familiar Badlands, Well and Granary which have been 'extensively reworked'. The other two are brand new maps, Ravine and Lumberyard. The latter shows the new Alpine themed environment, which still adheres to the TF2 art style. See some screenshots below of the new maps in action. See the full update on TF2 Arena and the new maps here.

New Payload – Badwater Basin
Posted @ 1:55 PM, August 14 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2
The new payload map has been unveiled on today's "A Heavy Update" website. See the new map here
Badwater Basin is a Payload map focusing on more open spaces and less chokepoints than Gold Rush. (A) Right out of the gate is a multi-level area where the Blu team needs to control the high ground while moving the cart through a tunnel below. This open area has few natural choke points, allowing Scouts, Soldiers, and Demomen to move creatively through the space, forcing the Red team to rapidly respond to choices made by Blu. (B) As the track winds its way into tighter spaces, vertical control becomes more important. Each successive checkpoint requires the Blu team to take control of defensive positions above the track, usually occupied by Red Engineers. (C) Eventually the track winds down and a large basin which the Blu team must assault from all sides in a final push to destroy the Red base.
Unlike Gold Rush, where the track is split into three separate stages, Badwater Basin uses a single large stage with several checkpoints. As a result, the Blu team is highly encouraged to push the cart hard after beating their way through the Red defensive line.

The K.G.B Arrive
Posted @ 3:47 PM, August 13 2008, By: Evo In News, Team Fortress 2
These are the Killing Gloves of Boxing (KGB anyone) and is the first unlockable revealed for the Heavy. Upon killing someone with the KGB the Heavy will have five seconds of guaranteed critical hits, using the crit-boost and the KGB the Heavy will be able to extend this killing feast. We just hope that the Heavy doesn't travel down to Georgia! The list of the Heavy achievements has also been revealed right here for you all to peruse. Buried beneath the numerous Soviet references is this little gem: Some investigation reveals this is the file name for that icon: tf_heavy_kill_taunt which simply put means that the Heavy will have a taunt which can kill, just like the Pyro.

A Heavy Update
Posted @ 1:24 PM, August 12 2008, By: Evo In News, Team Fortress 2
Some of you may have thought that the Pyro Update for Team Fortress 2 packed in a whole heap of new stuff. While that was true at the time, the Heavy Update is going to come along and change the way we view Team Fortress 2 updates for ever. The update is going to be so big that a new Heavy Update website had to be created to pack in all the news that will be drip fed to us over the next week with the update being planned to go live next Tuesday. The update will feature three unlockable weapons and thirty-five all new achievements for the Heavy. In addition you can expect to see a whole new game mode along with five maps for it to launch. Furthermore there will be a new Payload map which will have more open spaces than Goldrush, and if that is not enough the community map, cp_steel will also feature in the update. Keep your eyes peeled here for new information, screenshots and a special installment of the 'Meet The Team' videos. For now, check out this page for the lowdown on cp_steel.

TF2 And New Map Environments
Posted @ 5:01 PM, August 2 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Team Fortress 2
The official Team Fortress 2 Blog has been updated with new screenshots from what looks like a new map?
One of the things we're looking at for the next update is the creation of a new type of environment for our levels to be built in. We're pretty happy with the way our environments have turned out so far, but as we create more and more maps with these achievement packs, we want our level designers to have more to work with in terms of giving their settings a unique look.
The challenging part of this type of design process is in finding types of terrain and structures that provide an understandable, interesting set of visuals and at the same time staying within the constraints of what we want to do with gameplay. In addition to this, we want to be able to stay within the strengths of the engine that TF is built around.

Pyro Update Details
Posted @ 5:50 AM, June 18 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Team Fortress 2
So tomorrow is a big day for all Pyros around the world, the next major update for Team Fortress 2 will include new achievements and unlockable weapons for the pyro as well as some significant changes to the class. Now for the details:
The Maps:
CP_fastlane ( created by Arttu "skdr" Mäki): A control point map with five points, in the style of Badlands. Its symmetrical layout provides for high-speed and well balanced gameplay, while the multiple indoor routes, connected to larger outdoor arenas, provide a wide set of interesting and varied combat spaces. The arena-style control points require solid teamwork to capture and hold.
CTF_turbine ( created by Bill Johnston): A CTF map inside a large industrial compound. It's clean and straightforward, making it easy to learn, but its well balanced layout ensures there are still a wide variety of strategic choices for teams to make, and for individual classes to shine. Competitive teams and players have already popularized this one.
The Weapons:
1. The Flare Gun: The first Pyro unlockable is The Flare Gun, which replaces the shotgun. It allows the Pyro to ignite an enemy at long range, but does require careful aim on their part. It’s particularly useful for causing havoc on Snipers and Engineers who want to keep their distance.
2. The Backburner: The second Pyro unlockable is The Backburner. This flamethrower is built for the Pyro who likes to ambush their opponents. It removes the compression blast capability, instead guaranteeing critical hits whenever it’s used on an opponent from behind. To aid in survivability, it grants the Pyro an extra fifty health.
3. The Axtinguisher: The third Pyro unlockable is The Axtinguisher. This mighty axe guarantees critical hits on any enemy that’s currently on fire, although it’s significantly weaker against enemies who aren’t. A great combination with the The Flare Gun, or with another Pyro buddy riding alongside doing the igniting.
In addition to the three unlockable Pyro weapons, there is significant addition to the base Pyro flamethrower. By hitting the alt-fire key, the Pyro is able to produce a blast of compressed air that knocks enemies away, and redirects enemy projectiles. It’s a highly versatile tool, allowing Pyros to get away from nearby enemies after igniting them, to kill enemy soldiers with their own rockets, or to separate enemy Medics from their healing targets. In particular, it allows a skilled Pyro to contain an enemy invulnerability push, and even to separate the Medic completely if the surrounding terrain supports it.
To view the full list of the achievements and for more info about the new update, click here.
I'm so hyped right now, too bad i have exams this weekend , can't wait to burn you online.
