The assets from the Meet the Sniper video are now available in the SDK for anyone who wishes to play around with them. The Team Fortress Blog goes through the assets that are available including the bobbleheads and the camper van. One thing to bear in mind, these assets were made for the movies and aren't optimised for use in maps. You have been warned. More info.

Team Fortress 2 Update Released
Posted @ 3:45 PM, October 14 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2
Nothing hugely special in this update, a couple additions, mostly fixes and some community requests. The most interesting addition is the new +quickswitch command which will allow you to change your current class loadout on each weapon slot using a small panel. Sounds very handy indeed. See the full list below: - Added "+quickswitch" command, which brings up a small panel allowing you to rapidly change the loadout of your current class & active weapon slot
- Added server ConVar "tf_teamtalk" to allow alive/dead teammates to talk with each other during a match (default is 0)
- Added 1/2 Bonus Point for healing a teammate with a dropped sandvich
- Updated the class menu to show the local player's current class
- Updated server ConVar "tf_playergib" to have 3 settings for player gibs: 0: never, 1: normal, 2: always (default is 1)
- Fixed disguised spies not getting ammo from enemy dispensers
Permanent gibbing is likely to become popular with the community and William. [Read More...]

Team Fortress 2 Blog Update: Guard Dog
Posted @ 8:20 PM, September 21 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2
It all started yesterday on the Steampowered forums where a member created a fake TF2 update introducing the 10th class, a guard dog. This hilarious fake update page shows a BLU & RED dog with a mobile sentry gun on it's back, as well as abilities such as being a jarate dispenser. Check it out here, woof woof. Team Fortress fans have fell in love with the guard dog idea and now Valve have commended the idea on the TF2 blog with a thumbs up from Saxton Hale himself. G'Day, Inventor; Thank you for your submission of #1308 - "Guard Dog". First off, let me commend you for your ingenuity with regards to the item you invented. Your application is pending. Watch your mailbox because we will evaluate your invention and get back to you. I look forward to working with you in the future. Sincerely, Saxton Hale.

Team Fortress 2 Blog Update
Posted @ 7:06 PM, September 16 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2
Robin Walker has added an update on the TF2 blog rounding up a variety of TF2 related news from Valve and the community. Robin talks about how a now much larger Valve is able to have people working on both L4D2 and TF2 and so we shall continue to see updates, including releasing character animation sources for the community to play with in SDK. We decided it'd be best to get one model out, if only so we could get your feedback on it before we went ahead and got the rest done. So today we're updating the Source SDK to include all the model and animation source for the Heavy. Other community updates include The Dead Workers Party TF2 podcast, Ubercharged.net's guide to competitive gaming and SourceOP's extremely nifty backpack viewer. Valve have also added more TF2 avatars of ubercharged classes, as seen below. See the blog post here.

Big Team Fortress 2 Update Released, Drop Sandviches
Posted @ 5:07 PM, September 15 2009, By: DigiQ8 In Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 has been just updated with new additions, changes and bug fixes. This new update expand the backpack to 100 slots, gives The Heavy the ability to drop his sandvich which heals 50% of the collector's health and more.
Engine:
- If the installation is an HLTV relay we allow clients to connect as HLTV clients even if tv_enable is set to false. A recent exploit fix made it such that we ignore the flag indicating that the client is an HLTV client if tv_enable is false, but it is possible that relays won't have this ConVar set
Additions / Changes:
- Added support for 100 slots in the backpack
- Backpack can now be sorted by type
- Multi-selection in the backpack is now done by holding down the Ctrl key
- Alt-fire on the Sandvich now drops sandviches
- A single sandvich can be dropped at a time. Dropping the sandvich removes it from the Heavy
- A Heavy can regain his sandvich by collecting a healthkit while already being at full health
- Eating a sandvich using the taunt method now heals a Heavy to full health
- Dropped sandviches heal 50% of the collector's health

TF2 Idling Application Users Busted
Posted @ 5:17 PM, September 2 2009, By: DigiQ8 In Team Fortress 2
Idling applications are programs that basically simulate idling in a server, so you can earn as many TF2 items as possible.
Well, not anymore. In the latest entry of the Official TF2 Blog, Valve's Erik Johnson explained that over the next few days they will start removing all TF2 items that were earned using external idling applications.
Meanwhile, everyone else who took the moral high road will soon be finding a new hat in their inventory. Kudos to you!

Chet Faliszek on Valve and Left 4 Dead
Posted @ 3:21 PM, August 19 2009, By: Evo In HL2: Episode 2, Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal, Steam, Team Fortress 2
Valve's Chet Faliszek has opened up about Valve and Left 4 Dead and more to Jim Rossignol in Jim's Ragdoll Metaphysics column on Offworld. Before you start asking, no Chet doesn't have any Episode 3 news. However he does have some other interesting things to say: The Orange Box was weird. It reminded me of 8-bit era game packs. Three Games In One! That seems really unusual in the contemporary market. Did it seem unusual now? Did it seem totally logical to create a three-game pack like that? It still seems weird, now that I think about it.
Faliszek: Well, at the start Portal wasn't mature enough for us to be sure that we should do it like that, and Team Fortress 2 has had plenty of false starts. It kind of formed as we developed the games. There was no "this is how we do it" from the get-go, instead we're a company that can experiment and yeah, it's a throw-back to earlier eras, those ways of doing things. We experiment, and it pays off. You can find this in-depth interview here.

New Team Fortress 2 Update Released
Posted @ 7:19 PM, August 17 2009, By: DigiQ8 In Day of Defeat, Team Fortress 2
A new required updates for Team Fortress 2 and Day of Defeat: Source have been released today.
Day of Defeat: Source:
Team Fortress 2:
- Updated PL_Hoodoo: Added a balcony at 2-1 that I've rotated and cleaned up so it's a much better point, it attracts less sentry spam but is still holdable. 2-2 has a bit more breathing room and the one way route between BLU/RED spawn in stage 3 has gone and in its place some stairs up to the second level accessible from BLU's side.
- Added "tf_ctf_bonus_time" ConVar to set the CritBoost bonus time for capturing the intelligence (0 to disable it)
- Added "tf_arena_first_blood" ConVar to toggle the first blood feature in Arena mode (0 to disable it)
- Added missing snowpuff particles for DX8 players
- Fixed rocket jumping
- Fixed sticky bomb attachment to props. They will now only ignore the saws in sawmill
- Fixed Scouts going into reference pose in double jumps
- Fixed the Ubersaw not displaying team colors
- Fixed Spies disguised as RED Scouts not cloaking properly
- Removed two more text messages for TF_FLAGTYPE_ATTACK_DEFEND CTF game mode
You will get this update automatically via Steam.

Team Fortress 2 Classless Update Released with new CTF & CP Maps
Posted @ 5:32 PM, August 13 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In News, Team Fortress 2

The classless update is now available and your TF2 should be updating as I write this. Day 3 provides info on two new maps, the first CTF_sawmill (only the third official ctf map which is surprising). The arena version has been extensively reworked to accommodate the CTF game mode. We will also be getting cp_Yukon, a community made map with 5 control points. You'll be glad to know it is an alpine themed map and looks extremely impressive (see below). This update has also brought a significant amount of changes and fixes to general TF2 maps / weapons / class tweaks which you can read below.
