It's been over a year since we heard anything from the developers of Off Limits, but judging from their new progress update and media release, they've been hard at work in the meantime. In addition to a new map and a new character model donated by two talented developers, they've reworked the gameplay of the mod from the ground up:
Now the game is about two teams, who both have a Juggernaut as their main guy, he is linked to the spawn points that are located in the levels. When he gets killed during a match that team loses a spawn point giving the chance of the opposite team to capture that point. By doing this we created a moving battlefield that goes across an entire level. When there are no spawn left you lose. A more detailed description of the game play and all it's features will be announced at a later date.
Their stated purpose behind this update is primarily to attract more playtesters, so if you've got some free time on your hands and want to help them out, head over to their website for more information.

The FA: Source team have added some new screenshots of a reworked map called ps_snowstorm. This one is a spin off from their standard dust / desert like maps and is dressed with a coating of snow.
They have also provided screenshots of new weapons from the vast array they've promised and other glimpses of other maps. This is all in conjunction with their new website design which is looking pretty good. See a selection of the media below, but check out the Firearms: Source websitemedia sections for more!
Team Dystopia have released some media from their newest content update as well as sneak peek of achievements. If haven't heard Dystopia is getting SteamWorks achievements, stats system and automatic updates. They are very close to release and this quote confirms it:
We have loaded some of the last release candidate builds to the Steam servers, and they're quite ready to go. It's up to Valve to press the button now.
Just a quick reminder about Podcast 17, a great round up of the week's Half-life news in a podcast presented by familiar voices of William and Phillip. This week's episode is now available here.
I always try and give it a listen to catch mod updates and interviews with interesting individuals from the community. This episode focuses on the new Sven Co-op release, the Empires update last week and Phillip's ValveCommunity.net release. Podcast 17 website.
The HL2: Wars mod team have been working hard over the past months with huge improvements on their 0.5 Beta release of the mod back in July. If you've not played HL2: Wars before, it's the Half-life 2 universe implemented into a RTS game. This mod has achieved this convincingly already, but are looking to improve the gameplay significantly.
The game is in the process of being fully redesigned to replace the lackluster gameplay. Much has also been done to the game to improve latency issues, navigation, and AI, including a brand new NPC system that runs much more smoothly online and allows full control over how all of the units behave. HL2: Wars also now features a traditional RTS game lobby and team colours.
You can see an example of the lobby and team colours below. Keep up to date with the mod on the Half-life 2: Wars website or check out their moddb page for more media and to vote HL2: Wars your Mod of the Year 2008

The NeoTokyo team have kindly sent us some more screenshots of their soon to be released mod. They have already picked up their tools and resumed work in 2009, maintaining the dedication and effort they've put into this finely polished modification. Alongside this you can hear the team talking on the moddb development banter show. Check out the NeoTokyo website for more media.
A group of developers from the Black Mesa mod have taken the time to talk to the people over at ModDB. If you are interested in the mod, then it is well worth setting aside some time to listen to this developer banter.
The Sven Co-op update we posted a few weeks back has been released. Sven Co-op 4.0(Beta) is the update to the massive Sven Co-op v3.0 which so many people have played over the past years. It's worth noting this is not the Source version of the mod, purely an update on their original for Half-life 1. It's an excellent mod and worth downloading. Check out the new manual for 4.0B here.
Download the mod from any of the following mirrors:Half-life Files | Moddb | Fileshack | Svencoop.org. If you have any trouble with the mirrors visit the Sven Co-op for a huge selection of others, as well as the full news update on their release. Sven Co-op website
The Eternal Silence team are working on their new version which is soon to be released with SteamWorks support. They've put together a short video showing off some of their new features, including new maps and new game modes for 3.2. Eternal Silence website.
The insurgency team have been busy working on their next version, the upcoming 'Insurgency Beta 3'. We haven't heard much news from them as of recent, but they have provided a couple of new screenshots of their new USMC playermodels which can be seen below.
We're currently in the process of creating 4 totally new character models for each team. They are being created with customization in mind, so that they can use a variety of accessories.
Amongst other things, the team have put together a short video showing their recent improvement on player sounds, and showing off their new SKS model. See the video here.
NEOTOKYO trailer is now available to watch on YouTube or download from MonkeyJunkie in 720p glory.
NEOTOKYO is a first person shooter that provides a visceral & realistic combat experience in a rich futuristic setting. It is greatly influenced by our admiration for Masamune Shirow (GHOST IN THE SHELL) and Katsuhiro Otomo (AKIRA), and has been in production since October 2004.
