Smashball Mod Now on Steam
Posted @ 5:40 PM, June 18 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Mods

This fun multi-player mod can now be downloaded via Steam! If you've never played Smashball, now is the time to give it a try. This mod combines not only competitive team play, trying to score with a ball in the opposing team's goal, but also combat between teams in a struggle for victory.
Smashball is a fast-paced, ultra violent first-person sports shooter. Two teams use super-human maneuvers, a real-physics grappling hook and high-powered weaponry to try to get a single ball into their opponent's goal. On the league web site, players can see match stats, create teams and participate in our cash tournaments!

Smashball can be downloaded here, you require only Half-life 2 to play. Smashball website.
Curse Episode 1 Singleplayer Mod Released
Posted @ 8:02 AM, June 11 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Mods

We don't see a great deal of high quality single player modifications for Half-life 2 but the newly release Curse Episodes mod oozes quality. Voted the Most Anticipated Mod for 2008 by ModDB, Curse episodes are set in an Egyptian themed world, fighting against enemies with really enjoyable melee combat.

The mod has plenty of action moments (including boss fights) and puzzles to solve. You can download Curse Episode 1 from a selection of mirrors at Moddb. You only require Half-life 2 to play this mod.

Thanks to moddb for the images.
Firearms Source Media Update
Posted @ 4:46 PM, June 8 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Mods

Massive media update from the firearms source team, showing off all the hard work they've been up to. New models for their massive selection of guns, lots of new realistic and accurate military animations, new player models for the red team and a new map. The new media looks extremely good from a talented team which have shown excellent progression over the past few months.

Keep up to date with FAS on the Firearms Source website.

No More Room in Hell Returns
Posted @ 6:33 PM, April 6 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Mods

The well known mod, No More Room in Hell fell off the map not long ago, after being in development for 5 years. However, a more solid core team have joined their ranks in order to bring the zombie apocolypse mod back to life. The mod is a total conversion based on the Half-life 2 Source engine and promises to bring lots of fun game modes, non-linear maps and an array of fun weapons.
The good news doesn't stop there. No More Room in Hell will be available for download as an open beta before Summer 2009 and L4DMods.com will follow the progress with a hawk's eye. The open beta will feature the mod's first gametype, called Survival Barricade which is a mixture of Left 4 Dead's Survival Mode and Call of Duty: World at War's pathetic excuse of a Zombie game mode. The Survival Barricade will have up to 8 players spread randomly in a map, they then have to find each other and see how long they can survive a never ending torrent of zombies hungry for brains and flesh while barricading the doors and windows of their shelter with whatever they can find around them
The team are also looking for animators and technical artists to aid development. You can get more information and updates every Sunday on the NMRiH website.

Posted @ 5:06 AM, March 10 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Mods

The time is nearing closer for the release of Decadence mod, 28th March to be precise before we can enjoy this highly anticipated mod. The Decadence team have put together an introductory video introducing the main objectives involved and how rounds are won and an overview to the classes available.

As usual, its a well produced video by the team even if our resident Majestic XII narrates it in a very girly voice. You can download the video here or watch it below. Decadence website.

Eternal Silence Patched
Posted @ 1:42 PM, February 9 2009, By: Evo In Mods, News

The first patch for the Eternal Silence mod since it was released onto Steam has been released. If you have the mod installed on Steam then it should automatically update with the following fixes:
  • [FIX] Shorten transition distance from 500m to 200m to save bandwidth.
  • [FIX] Made it so only ships from the hangar are networked (not all players/grenades/ion bombs)
  • [FIX] Shorten ship visible distance from 1800m to 1500m.
  • [FIX] Fixed player collisions, no more rubber band.
  • Fixed config reset bug.
  • Added Cancel button back to loading screen.
  • [FIX] Allowed Target Last Attacker for passengers.
  • [FIX] Bomb dropped properly when the carrier disconnects.
  • [BAL] Lowered DPS on the Ion Cannon primary fire.
These fixes should go some way to sorting out the lag issues that some have been experiencing the past few days.

Decadence Trailer Released
Posted @ 8:45 AM, February 2 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Mods, News

We've been keeping you up to date with Decadence for a long time now, but now we reach the point where release is really close, March 2009 in fact. We've shown lots of screenshots but...
There comes a time in every mods development cycle where screenshots aren’t enough, and if they say a picture is worth a thousand words, a trailer should be plenty!

It's looking brilliant, you can vote Decadence your ModDB MOTY here or keep up to date on the Decadence website.
Halflife2.net Plays Beta of Berimbau Mod
Posted @ 7:52 PM, January 30 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Mods

This week, we've been lucky enough for the Ninja Workshop team to have given us access to their new closed beta build of their mod Berimbau.
Berimbau is a multiplayer Source engine mod featuring fierce sword duels in a retro-future universe. The game features an open sword combat system that allows for creative use of combos, counter-attacks, and parries. This combat system encourages players to develop attack patterns and strategies to defeat their opponents, rather than random “knife-fight” melee combat.
Playing together over the past few days has been great to see a mod in it's relative infancy as it's core features are put into place. This mod offers a unique experience, whereby you must co-ordinate strings of attacks, as well as blocks & parries. Dodging and stance changes are all important, and this will be a mod to look out for in the future. Duels can be fast and frantic or controlled and methodical, multi duels will add to the chaos once introduced.

Keep up to date with the ninjaworkshop team on their website, and I'm sure they will be looking for support in the ModDB MOTY competition if this looks up your street!
