RPS Interviews Chet Faliszek
Posted @ 5:47 PM, March 5 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Left 4 Dead
Rock, Paper, Shotgun has an interview with Valve's Chet Faliszek to discuss Valve's upcoming zombie game Left 4 Dead.
RPS: The Team Fortress 2 shorts are still coming?
Faliszek: Sure, and we’ll do something like that for Left 4 Dead. We have a bunch of guys working on it. We’re hooked on it. They’re too funny. Speaking as someone who doesn’t actually have to do that work, I’d say that they’re totally hilarious. Yeah, I’m sure the team don’t think so. It’s a long slog to get the funny.
Oh god Left 4 Dead short movies, this is going to be awesome. Read the full interview here.

Big Left 4 Dead Media release
Posted @ 8:03 AM, March 2 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In Left 4 Dead
Well, with Left 4 Dead getting closer, Valve are happy to showcase a lot more of what they've achieved so far. To begin with, IGN have had the opportunity to play L4D on "the infected" side experiencing the variety of zombie bosses in the game as well as learning tactical ambushes. See the linked article for their thoughts and overviews of these characters. Article here
Leaving our team behind, we walked forward into the bedroom to make sure it was clear. Our mistake. As we approached a window to look outside, a smoker perched on an abandoned car in the driveway darted out his tongue and ripped us right out of the second floor, flinging us to the ground below. A tank, which was on fire at the time, then rumbled out from a Molotov blaze on the house's veranda and smashed us across the face, killing us.
Eurogamer have also put up their first impressions of Left 4 Dead with a playtest they had recently, also getting their hands on the infected side. See this article also for a good interview with good old Doug Lombardi. Article here
Throughout these articles there has been a surge of new screenshots of the game, most of which can all be found on the Left 4 Dead website here.
Lastly, to finish with, see below for an official new video of L4D gameplay over at GameTrailers.

Posted @ 6:45 AM, February 28 2008, By: Munro In Counter-Strike, Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2
Gametrailers have released a promo video of the next episode of their Gametrailers TV series. They announce in this promo that they will be visiting Valve to get an interview with Gabe Newell where he apparently has something interesting to say regarding Counter-Strike 2. There will also be new gameplay footage of Left 4 Dead and a new Team Fortress 2 map, possibily Goldrush. The show will be airing on USA channel Spike at 1am on Friday but until then you can watch the promo here. P.S. They also show some wicked footage of Lego: Batman which goes straight into my wanted list.

Valve Confirms No Left 4 Dead for PS3
Posted @ 4:14 AM, February 26 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Left 4 Dead
Valve’s Doug Lombardi has confirmed on videogaming247 that highly anticipated zombie shooter Left 4 Dead is not coming to Sony's PS3. “ We were really crappy at bringing games to consoles,” said Lombardi.
EA wanted to do Orange Box on PS3 and they handled it, Left 4 Dead isn’t coming out on PS3 because we’ve not had that call. If the phone rang we would have the conversation, certainly, but it hasn’t happened.
Is Valve giving up on porting / developing games on consoles? nope, as Lombardi revealed that “ If Valve were to develop in-house for another format, it would be the Wii." because its growing and there is already a huge user-base for Nintendo's highly successful console.

Left 4 Dead Xbox 360 Revealed
Posted @ 9:46 PM, February 19 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Left 4 Dead
OXM recently revealed the Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead, OXM confirmed Left 4 Dead going to be console exclusive to 360 which means that there is no PS3 version (sorry PS3 players). They also mentioned that a separate game company named Certain Affinity is handling the Xbox 360 version, a small game developer founded in November 2006 based in Austin. Certain Affinity is led by Max Hoberman, a 10-year Bungie veteran who was multiplayer lead for both Halo 2 and Halo 3.
Looks like Valve are trying to avoid the lag problems they had with Team Fortress 2 on 360 so they brought Certain Affinity to handle 360-specific elements like matchmaking, Live support, console customization, and 360 gameplay tweaks. Read the full article on Left4Dead411.com.

Lombardi Interview – Portal and Orange Box 2?
Posted @ 7:01 AM, February 8 2008, By: Munro In HL2: Episode 3, Left 4 Dead, News, Portal
Eurogamer have sat down with Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi to talk
about things. Things like Portal, and whether we'll see an Orange Box 2. Things
that you can read in the interview
here.
Eurogamer: You
obviously can't do The Orange Box 2...
Doug Lombardi:
[Laughs]
Eurogamer:
Presumably you'll just release Episode Three as a single standalone product this
time?
Doug Lombardi:
We'll see, we'll see. The idea of doing The Orange Box 2 seems kind of
contrived. It happened the first time because the three [games] were on a
collision course and a bunch of us were sitting around going "this could be a
nightmare", and somebody kicked around the idea of putting them together.

Left 4 Dead Impressions
Posted @ 5:52 AM, February 8 2008, By: Munro In Left 4 Dead
CS-Nation.net have
released their
second and final piece of their two part look at Left 4 Dead. This part
gives Zips own impressions of the game after getting a hands-on with it.
They're pounding the door down!? The Infected were actually pounding so hard
on that door that it was bending and bowing outwards, ready to give at any
moment. Talk about a situation where the tension was palpable! We didn't
have to wait long before they burst through, our guns instantly blazing. One
after another, they fell at our feet, sometimes two or three at a time from
the wide blast radius of the shotgun, not a single one having even a chance
to attack. There wasn't a moment of peace after our success as it was time
to move on to the next area and meet up with our teammates.
Make sure you also read
Part 1 if you
missed it for a preview.

Valve aquire Turtle-Rock
Posted @ 10:59 AM, January 10 2008, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead
In a move which shouldn't really surprise many, Valve have acquired Turtle-Rock Studios, the development studio behind one of 2008's most wanted games, Left 4 Dead. The two companies have worked closely for many years and is a move welcomed by both parties. "We have been seeing very strong growth with Steam and Source, our content distribution and development platforms, up over 150% over the last 12 months. Given our expectations for Left 4 Dead and our long-standing relationships with members of the Turtle Rock team, this was an easy decision. It also gives us a base from which to expand our development activities in the Los Angeles area," said Gabe Newell, president of Valve.
"Left 4 Dead fills a long-standing demand gamers have had for a coop first-person action experience, and it will also help Valve's expansion into the console market," added Doug Lombardi, Valve's VP of marketing.
"Valve has had great success bringing in projects and teams such as Team Fortress and Portal. As I spent time working and talking with the creators of those products over the past several years, it became clear that this was the right next step for myself, my colleagues at Turtle Rock, our customers, and our products," said Michael Booth, founder and CEO of Turtle Rock Studios. "We are excited to be a part of such a visionary and forward-thinking company." More information can be found here.
