ZapWizard’s “Dismember the Alamo” Left 4 Dead map Released
Posted @ 3:53 PM, October 19 2009, By: Alby Eli Erwin-Frank In Left 4 Dead, Maps, News

Looking for something to quell that seething, uncontrollable urge to massacre zombies in various locales but can't wait for DLC or the upcoming Left 4 Dead 2 demo? Look no further:

Left 4 Dead mapper and general zombie enthusiast ZapWizard has recreated the world famous Austin Texas based Alamo Theater 1:1 for us to murder zombies in. To top it all off, he's included a rather lengthy walk through of the entire painstaking process on the Austin Modders forum.

Some of the finer points of Zombie genocide at the Alamo Theater include:

  • Fully modeled and faithful recreation of all major indoor and outdoor portions of the actual Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
  • Countless new models and textures, majority of which were created from photographs of the location itself
  • ZapWizard is currently working with Valve to have his work showcased at the upcoming "Dismember the Alamo" film festival

So what are you waiting for? Devour the map now from Left4Dead mods.

Gabe Newell in Australia
Posted @ 2:14 AM, October 7 2009, By: DigiQ8 In Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Mods

After asking the community to help him with The Fly Gabe Newell Fundraiser, Joe W-A managed to get Gabe Newell to agree to fly to Brisbane, Australia.

Today in Sydney, the great meeting took place. Gabe spoke about the value of a community and how it flies people to Australia, He was also talking about how Valve are part of the community and how they're always looking for feedback.

Joe is also planning to get Peter Molyneaux down there as he got "a few things to say to him". You can watch the meeting right here.
Community Pays to Fly Gabe to Australia
Posted @ 11:30 AM, October 1 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Left 4 Dead

Gabe will soon be on his way down under after an entertaining email exchange with mod maker Joe W-A. The fund-raising began after Joe heard that Newell had recently flown the leaders of a gaming community group boycotting Valve's upcoming Left 4 Dead 2 to Valve's Seattle, WA headquarters. Joe emailed to ask if Newell would fly him to Seattle so Joe could show him his mod.

Gabe playfully replied that he wouldn't fly Joe to Seattle because he was "boycotting" Joe's mod. The Australian-based game designer appealed to the game community for $3,000-the funds necessary to fly Newell halfway around the world-and raised the money in less than 48 hours.
"The power of the gaming community and their ability to rally around a cause - be it serious or fun in nature - is amazing. In 2003, the community helped the FBI and European law enforcement officials find the people who stole the Half-Life 2 source code. This year, the community is putting me on a plane to the other side of the world to meet Joe W-A and see his MOD. It's going to be a fun trip."
Erik Johnson will be accompanying Gabe to stop him getting eaten by spiders during their trip next week. All news on the trip will be posted on the L4D blog. Check out the blog site used to raise the funds for this project!
Left 4 Dead Mod – Cold Case Part I
Posted @ 10:11 PM, September 30 2009, By: BlueWolf72 In Community, Left 4 Dead

What You Have Been Missing: Cold Case pits the survivors in yet another scenario. Their ride to safety has mysteriously crash landed on a remote island somewhere in the north western United States. After hours of waiting, they decide they are the only four survivors from the terrible crash, and they need to find help. However, quickly they realize there is something terribly wrong with this place. The survivors must traverse a large and expansive island. Their goal? To meet up with fellow survivors and get to the only known safe zone; a small military base located on the opposite shore of the island. Only there can they finally find the salvation they desperately are searching for…. or will they?

During their journey, the survivors solve many strange mysteries that surround them. Why did their transport suddenly crash? Why are the infected on this island so quickly mutating? Who is The Mayor, and what role does he play on this island? Who is Agent Orange? It is up to them to find the clues and escape from the infested island.

Upgrades Expect to spend your time hunting for the upgrade tables. By doing so you can upgrade different things about yourself. Between accuracy, speed, and revival amounts you will need them to survive.

Storyline Expect a rich and detailed storyline featuring numerous recordings by voice actors (and myself).

MASSIVE CONTENT! 36 maps in total! 6 full map campaign featuring hours of game play 10 survival maps with dynamically changing atmospheres. Hold some points while waves of infected tear it down, while others force you to run for your life to get to better positions. 2 separate 5 map versus campaigns. Cold Case: Covert Operations, and Cold Case: The Forsaken Each feature their own cooperative and versus maps!

From October 1st  to October 9th , anybody who (Cold Case) pre-registers for the event will be automatically placed in a drawing for some great prizes! Currently up for grabs are some fantastic custom-made t-shirts and 24X36 posters! I will be giving away four of each on October 9th in a random drawing to anybody who pre-registers. This is the first of four prize give-aways I will be holding. If you had already pre-registered, you will be automatically entered to win the following weeks prizes!

I will be setting up a table at GAMEX, (www.gamexpo.com), this year. I will be showcasing the campaign, and allowing people interested to get a sneak peek of the entire package! This will include the survival maps, Cold Case: Covert Operations, and Cold Case: The Forsaken. I will also be selling tickets, and some extra computer cases at the event! If you are interested in playing the campaign before it is made public, head on over to my table! I will be located in the artists section in the back of the convention.

Left 4 Dead Update Released
Posted @ 11:21 PM, September 29 2009, By: DigiQ8 In Left 4 Dead

A small Left 4 Dead update has been released earlier today which will be downloaded automatically when your Steam client is restarted.
  • Made the variable "mp_gamemode" available again. Note that you can also load maps directly with different game modes by specifying it in the map command. For example, "map l4d_garage01_alleys versus" will set mp_gamemode versus for you automatically and load the first map of Crash Course
  • Added "mm_dedicated_force_servers" to allow specification of a list of dedicated server addresses manually used for searching (ms_force_dedicated_server is depreciated)
  • Updated shared libraries and DLLs preventing dedicated servers listing correctly, appearing on Steam groups, and being found via sv_search_key

Hey, Do You Wanna Kill Teletubbies?

Ever sat down with your nephew while he's watching this show about big, round, brightly colored, annoying creatures known as The Teletubbies? Don't you wanna kill them? and empty your M16 rifle on their heads? and throw 10 Molotovs and watch them burn slowly to their painful yet satisfying death?

Well, it's your chance to do so thanks to this mod made by flameknight7 that changes all the common infected to Teletubbies. The complete package comes with a sound mod and you hear the zombies saying "Eh oh" and at the end of a round, listen to the music. You can watch them die here or start killing them yourself here.

Let the Teletubby slaughtering begin.

Valve Want L4D2 PC Mods on Xbox Live
Posted @ 10:53 AM, September 14 2009, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Maps, Mods

Valve have revealed to OXM that they want to see user created content for the upcoming Left 4 Dead 2 appear on Xbox Live. However, because Live isn't set up to allow this kind of free content delivery Valve are thinking about charging for user campaigns and giving the money back to the makers. Valve's Yasser Mailaka told OXM:

"One of the things I'm thinking about is how we work within that [Xbox Live] system," "and one of the things I'd like to do is to allow these modules that are being released on PC to somehow integrate with Microsoft's system...perhaps we can shepherd the really popular campaigns onto 360. And you know, if they are a paid system, perhaps that could go back to the authors. I think that would be a great story."

Crash Course to be Released on September 23?

According to Microsoft you'll have the chance to play Crash Course the new Left 4 Dead DLC with Paramore (a rock band) on Wednesday, September 23.

Has Microsoft accidentally dated Crash Course? We'll have to wait for a confirmation from Valve, stay tuned. If you're interested in that event, click here.
It’s a Plane
Posted @ 9:58 PM, September 13 2009, By: BlueWolf72 In Community, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2

So, the story starts off when the boycott started and many gamers joined the cause. Valve aka Gabe Newell decided to fly out the two lead members of the boycott. Side note many are upset that they got a chance to be flown and got the chance to see the DLC Crash Course, along with the other DLC they are working on (secretly) for Left 4 Dead and got to check out some Left 4 Dead 2. Another gamer L4D modder Joe took it upon himself to email Gabe that he deserves to be also flown out to get a tour.

Gabe replied to his email (jokingly) "We are boycotting your mod/campaign". Joe, decided to reply back with "Does...does that mean I have fly you here?". To make this interesting Gabe replied back with "Me and Erik". Joe has now begun a fund-raising blog to raise the money needed to fly Gabe and Erik out to Brisbane, Australia. Joystiq spoke to someone at Valve who suggests that Gabe will honor his agreement. Joe needed to make roughly $2400 to achieve this. Rather incredibly he’s just broken the $3000 barrier. Gabe is asking that the money be donated to Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play charity. Child’s Play raises money for providing toys and games for kids in hospitals around the world.

To some all this seems a tad silly but in the end it has made Valve look to have a sense of humor and ended up getting the community to help Joe which helps Child's Play charity. In the end, Left 4 Dead will be supported and rumor is Crash Course will be released on September 23rd.
Dark Carnival Unveiled

Today is the first day of PAX so expect a flood of media and hands-on previews for Valve's Left 4 Dead 2.

Starting with Eurogamer and their trip to the funland to come back with new information and screenshots of deadly clowns.

Dark Carnival (You must be this tall...to DIE) is the third of five campaigns for Left 4 Dead 2. It begins on a highway and take you across a variety of locations, from slippery hillside to a two-storey motel and ends in the carnival itself which is full of infected-packed tents and stalls.

c2m2_fairgrounds0050_NewA.jpg c2m2_fairgrounds0135_New.jpg
Following a few close shaves and a descent down a slippery hillside (which the AI director saw fit to spice up with a tank - thanks for that), the survivors work through a two-storey motel complex, with roomed-up infected bashing chunks out of every door they pass to try and get at them, and then make their way into the carnival itself, full of infected-packed tents and stalls.
There are also new uncommon-common zombie clowns who call other infected over to them. There's also a new t-shirt for Ellis, an electric guitar to use as a melee weapon and of course the new special infected: The Jockey which we revealed some info about him earlier.

You can read the full preview by heading to Eurogamer.net.

There is also a new gameplay video on youtube that shows some footage of the new campaign which I think reveal a new melee weapon a weapon that we all love, The Mighty Crowbar. You can find it here.

In other news, Chet Faliszek has told Eurogamer that upcoming L4D1 DLC Crash Course costs money on Xbox Live because Microsoft insisted upon it.
"We own our platform, Steam. Microsoft owns their platform. They wanted to make sure there's an economy of value there," Faliszek told Eurogamer today when asked about the 560 Microsoft Points (£4.76 / €6.72) price tag for Crash Course. When pressed about whether Microsoft effectively enforced the pricing, Faliszek added: "Well, they helped us get the first one out for free. We had the one DLC out for free. And I think... they have to look and say, wow, we're kind of being unfair to everybody else if these guys can do that.
He also confirmed that it's still down for release in September.

Long post is over.
