Counter Strike 2 ‘Never Really Got off the Ground’

Counter Strike creator Minh Le has revealed to IGN that when he joined Valve he worked on several Counter Strike titles, including Counter Strike 2. However development "never really got off the ground, the project ended up being put on the shelf."

Minh is now working on a game called Tactical Intervention which looks to be the type of game Minh wanted Counter Strike to eventually become. He told IGN: "I enjoyed Counter-Strike, but I wanted to have my own game. I was never able to put in all the cool features I wanted because the people who played Counter-Strike would [complain] about all the changes. They liked the game as it is."

Counter-Strike 1.6 Update Released

A new small update to Counter-Strike 1.6 released.
  • Fix the wrong sounds being played on jump when moving to different surfaces
  • Fixed crash in the spectator UI when hitting tab
Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta Adds Community Features

Yes, Valve is actually touching Counter-Strike 1.6 again. There is a Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta available to all existing Counter-Strike owners adds some of the Steamworks features. To opt into the Beta, run

steam://install/150

The focus of this beta is on the dedicated server component, in particular the Linux piece. Here are the specific changes:

Integrated Steam Community features into Counter-Strike
  • In-game player name now automatically uses player's Steam Community name
  • Avatars are displayed on the scoreboard
Other Fixes:
  • Prevented some cvar exploits (thanks to AnAkIn for pointing them out)
Gametrailers TV Heading to Valve

Gametrailers have released a promo video of the next episode of their Gametrailers TV series. They announce in this promo that they will be visiting Valve to get an interview with Gabe Newell where he apparently has something interesting to say regarding Counter-Strike 2. There will also be new gameplay footage of Left 4 Dead and a new Team Fortress 2 map, possibily Goldrush. The show will be airing on USA channel Spike at 1am on Friday but until then you can watch the promo here.

P.S. They also show some wicked footage of Lego: Batman which goes straight into my wanted list.
