IGN and bit-tech Left 4 Dead 2 Hands-on
Posted @ 10:58 AM, July 7 2009, By: DigiQ8 In Left 4 Dead 2

Both IGN and bit-tech got their hands on Left 4 Dead 2 and choosing to describe their experiences, rather than rehashing the same old rants.
All in all, Left 4 Dead is looking incredibly promising. Yes, it's very much more of the same, but – from what we've seen, at least - it's been refined and revised to really ramp up the tension and exploit the formula's greatest strengths. It's still hugely engaging as a co-operative experience and, as an added bonus, Valve has pushed things a little from a visual perspective.

Chet: All we’ve shown is the Charger special infected. There are three to four new special infected, they are all playable in Versus Mode. We’ve only shown a couple of the melee weapons too, we have new things like incendiary ammo, more items besides pipe bombs and molotovs. We’re just giving a little sample out for now.

New Demo Format Coming Soon to TF2
Posted @ 8:13 AM, July 7 2009, By: DigiQ8 In Team Fortress 2

A new demo recording format for Team Fortress 2 is nearing beta release, this comes as players have been breaking demo files after downloading new updates.

The new format will allow you to request the demo file from the server, after you finish a round you are particularly proud of, or scored "an awesome kill".

This file will have the complete game state instead of just what your client saw. In addition, "the format has a some side benefits, like supporting full backwards & forwards time scrubbing".

Zeitgeist Single Player Mod Update
Posted @ 5:12 AM, July 7 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Mods

First I've heard or seen anything about this mod myself, but I'm sure coverage of this mod will increase greatly in the coming year. Zeitgiest is a single player mod set in London in the early 1900's. There aren't many other details on what to expect from the mod which is scheduled for release in 2010, but their latest media release speaks for itself showing London's piccadilly circus in a timewarp.

This excellent work is partly down to mapper Albatros from the Zeitgeist team. You can check out other media and the progress of this mod through their moddb profile here.

Valve Interviews Commence Joystiq Gets Some Left 4 Dead 2 Details
Posted @ 7:52 PM, July 4 2009, By: BlueWolf72 In Left 4 Dead 2, Mods, News

There's an Interview with Doug Lombardi on Joystiq talking about a variety of topics, including PS3 support and quite a bit on Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2.  The top interview questions that caught my eye were:

So first thing's first. Where's Half Life 2 Episode 3?

Doug:  "Laughs. Stay tuned! No news on that today."

Onto Left 4 Dead 2 specific stuff. Will you be offering Left 4 Dead 1 levels as DLC or installable from the disc for Left 4 Dead 2?

Doug:  "That's something that we're looking at right now. How to marry those communities and how to piece those things together. We've made it so that with the mod tools, if you're making stuff for Left 4 Dead right now, with very little work you'll be able to get it up and running in Left 4 Dead 2 and it's a matter of how all that interfaces and there are a lot of details that we still need to work out. But it's definitely a goal of ours to have cross-operability for those who own both games."

Left 4 Dead 2: Hands On
Posted @ 2:04 PM, July 3 2009, By: Chris_D In Left 4 Dead 2

My favourite gaming site, Eurogamer.net has posted a two page hands-on preview of Left 4 Dead 2. The article goes into the detail of their play experience, including several comments from the Valve team:
Project lead Chet Faliszek tells me the axe can be used to one-hit kill a Witch, if you can successfully sneak up behind her. And it's likely there'll be a dedicated Achievement for that. "If you did that with a frying pan, you're going to have a bad experience," he adds, grinning.

Eurogamer Left 4 Dead 2 Interview
Posted @ 7:27 AM, July 2 2009, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, News

There is a new interview with Doug Lombardi over on Eurogamer concerning Left 4 Dead 2. You can read the whole thing here but in the meant time this is a nice little taste of what you can expect to read:

Eurogamer: So at the moment, you have separate teams working on Left 4 Dead 2 and supporting the original game?

Doug Lombardi: There's a couple of different teams, actually. There's guys working on Left 4 Dead 2, guys working on Left 4 Dead 1 stuff, and then guys working on the authoring tools for Left 4 Dead - the mod-making stuff. Regarding the Left 4 Dead 1 content, we'll be announcing stuff in the coming weeks, but there's nothing I can say about it today.
