WWI: Source June Update
Posted @ 4:45 PM, June 29 2009, By: Ennui In News
The folks over at WWI: Source (one of which, incidentally, is yours truly) have posted their latest monthly update, detailing information on their closed alpha playtesting sessions, introducing a few new team members, and showing off a couple of in-game screenshots, as well as hinting at an open beta release over the horizon.
June has been a great month for the team, with a couple of new members, a ton of playtesting, and generally as much productivity as a mod team could hope for. We’ve progressed into Phase 2 of our internal alpha testing with a small team of playtesters, and had a blast doing so and watching the gameplay continously become more streamlined and fun. Here are a couple of screenshots from our playtesting sessions; the first two are from Ztormi’s map ww_somme and the others are from Wickit’s map ww_passchendaele.
That’s almost all for this month, but before we go, here’s a blog post ivsound has written detailing the creation of one of the WWI: Source machinegun sounds, including a short in-game video. Check it out here.
Look interesting? Find out more at the main website or their ModDB profile.

Left 4 Dead Blog – Custom Campaign Support
Posted @ 6:26 PM, June 19 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Left 4 Dead
An update from the L4D blog talks about the new system being added to Left 4 Dead to support custom campaigns made with the authoring tools Valve released a few weeks ago. The update will be available on Steam next week. Important additions: - Add-Ons - Third party campaigns are designed to be installed using a new Add-On framework. Content authors will be able to package up their new maps, along with new posters, models, and textures, into a single .VPK file
- Matchmaking - When creating or searching for a lobby, a new option named "Add-on campaign" will let you select from among the add-on campaigns that you have installed. You can then find games or lobbies as well as create a lobby for that campaign. You can invite your friends, too. If they do not have the campaign installed, they will automatically be offered and an option to download it.
The authoring tools are also officially coming out of beta, and for details on packaging your new campaign see the developer wiki. Full blog update here.
