Day 3 Sniper Update: The Razorback
Posted @ 3:05 PM, May 14 2009, By: AciD In News

Third day brings us information about next unlockable for Sniper — The Razorback. Razorback can save Sniper from single backstab but it explodes after it saves player. Downside of The Razorback is that it slows Sniper down, in addition it removes SMG.

The Razorback is a beautiful hand-carved tribal shield, built using indigenous techniques passed from father to son since before recorded time. Sometimes the old ways really are the best ways. And after using the Razorback in the field, we quickly discovered this was not one of those times.

Day 2 Sniper Update: Payload Race + 2 Arena Maps
Posted @ 5:08 PM, May 13 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2

Day two of the Sniper update and we will see a new game mode Gladiatorial Cart Combat where both teams must guide their own cart up hill to a finish point. The map is called Pipeline, and apparently if you stop pushing for a second it rolls back down to the bottom of the hill again.

The update will also bring two new Arena mode maps called Nucleus and Sawmill, which look very sleek. See the full sniper update including a postcard from the Sniper here.

The Sniper Update — Part One
Posted @ 2:22 PM, May 12 2009, By: AciD In News

First unlockable for Sniper has been revealed — it's The Huntsman. It's a long bow that will allow us to pin other players to walls. The Sniper Update will not be different than other class updates, it will contain a new map, new achievements and more maps for us to play. All that good stuff is free of charge as usual.

Any experienced sniper will tell you how irritating it is when your targets keep moving around. The question is how to stop these cheaters from wind-sprinting around like they own the place. And the answer is to pin them to a wall. How? With arrows!

And even if you don't kill them, they'll carry around a certain arrow-shaped something as a living testament to your awesome archery skills and their frankly unawesome dodging skills. Comes with 18 arrows and a one-second charge for full power shots.
You can visit The Sniper update page here.

UPDATE: From the TF2 blog regarding the Huntsman. Robin Walker simply says "No, the Huntsman doesn't stun. It pins dead/dying players."

Team Fortress 2 Blog: Designing Sniper Unlock
Posted @ 6:30 PM, May 5 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2

The TF2 blog has been updated by Robin Walker, who talks about the struggles of trying to create a sniper rifle alternative unlock for the next update. Robin outlines the development process TF2 has taken regarding deaths of players, adding changes such as the freezecam and removing grenades since Team Fortress Classic.

Changes such as this have allowed players to identify and understand how they died, so they can learn how to avoid this and improve their skill level. The sniper can cause this kind of anger by killing you without being near you so the next unlock will add a new depth...
In an effort to reduce some of the aggravation that other players feel towards the Sniper, we chose the goal of designing an unlockable that encouraged the Sniper to get a little closer to his target. We want him to give up some of his primary advantage in return for something else, so that enemies he kills feel like they were engaged with them, and feel like they could have survived if they'd just managed to fight a little better
There is also a mention of Gang Garrison 2.1 being released (the 8-bit style TF2 game) which has many new additions. Team Fortress 2 Blog.

Left 4 Dead Stats Live & 40% Weekend Deal
Posted @ 12:07 PM, May 1 2009, By: Hectic Glenn In Left 4 Dead

Firstly, Left 4 Dead is the subject of this weekends deal, being offered at a 40% discount, bringing it down to $24 | £16. If you want to try before you buy, don't forget Left 4 Dead is free for 24 hours today.

Yes, you heard right, the L4D stats system is back up and live (after a bit of a failure on the first launch). It seems the bugs have been ironed out, and luckily stats have been recorded since 12/12/08 with weapons stats tracking beginning 2/11/09. The stats are split into: Overview, Weapons, Versus and Survival.
You can also use your stats page to compare your statistics against other players, giving you a quick and easy way to see how your accomplishments measure up to your friends and find players at your own skill level. You can also track negative statistics (like damage dealt to other teammates, for example), giving you a good idea of which players to avoid
You can access your stats from the Community tab in Steam. See further information about the new stats system on the latest L4D blog post.
