Valve to Sue Activision, Activision to Countersue
Posted @ 3:13 PM, April 30 2009, By: -smash- In News

Yup, that case back in 2002 between Valve and Vivendi… it’s back. Only this time it’s Valve versus Activision, because Vivendi has merged with Activision since the last lawsuit.
On Tuesday Valve filed suit against Activision Blizzard in U.S. District Court in Seattle. The suit alleges that Activision refused to honor an agreement to abide by an arbitrator's April 6th award decision involving a 2002 dispute over royalties.
Activision paid Valve last week the sum of $1,967,796, when Valve were awarded a payment of $2,391,932 as a result of the trial back in 2002. That leaves an outstanding balance of $424,136, which Activision claim has been paid to Valve over the past few years.

More details can be found here, and here for the complaint filed by Valve.

Posted @ 8:22 AM, April 30 2009, By: DigiQ8 In Team Fortress 2

This is Digi from Kuwait Airport, bringing you the latest news about our beloved Valve Software.

Shacknews had an interview with Valve's Robin Walker about the latest Team Fortress 2 patch and the very mysterious 50-slot "backpack".
The primary change here is simply the decoupling of achievements and unlockables, which is the source of most of the negative feedback we've received around previous class packs," said Walker. "It'll provide multiple ways for players to get items, with a plan to add more over time.
He explains these features and how it will affect the future of Team Fortress 2.

Valve to Attend E3 and PAX
Posted @ 12:03 AM, April 24 2009, By: -smash- In News

Confirmed over the last few days, it looks as though Valve's PR train is definitely going to be chugging it's way through 2009. Recently, it was found that Valve has been officially added to the exhibitor list for E3 2009. This year's event has been touted by industry leaders as a time full of software announcements, and those developers who plan to release a product before January are banking on E3 to get the word out. E3 2009 will be held June 2-4 in Los Angeles.

As well as E3, Valve has been listed as an attendee at this years Penny Arcade Expo (PAX), which is being held September 4-6 in Seattle.

Will we see more DLC for Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead? What about Episode Three? I guess we'll have to bite the bullet for a couple more weeks before we see.

It looks like the Left 4 Dead Survival Pack DLC Reception has been positive and that Valve is "Pleased" with the initial performance of the Left 4 Dead Survival Pack DLC.
… From what we’ve seen on the forums, in the press, and the gamers we met on public servers this morning, folks seem to be enjoying it so far,” he said. “Meanwhile, the concurrent player numbers are already up from their recent averages. So positive indicators thus far.
“Releasing new content free of charge has made sense to us on many occasions,” explained Lombardi. “We have, however, released commercial add on packs and new episodes in the past. We evaluate these decisions on a case-by-case basis. The Survival Pack was a case where we felt like it made a lot of sense for the product and community to make it available free of charge to both Xbox 360 and PC customers and we were able to work through that plan with Microsoft.”
Lombardi also said that Left 4 Dead won’t be turning up on PlayStation 3 any time soon.
