Team Fortress 2 Blog Update: Incredible Additions Being Worked On
Posted @ 6:43 PM, December 11 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2
The Team Fortress team had been drafted in to help with L4D in the past few months, but it seems they are back on home ground working on TF2 again. Although we won't see any updates this year, here is an example of what to expect: - Teleporters will be upgradeable to level 3. As the teleporter is upgraded, the cooldown will decrease.
- Dispensers will be upgradeable to level 3. They will heal faster and generate metal faster as they are upgraded.
- Spies will be able to recharge their cloaking ability by picking up ammo off of the ground.
- We've made a bunch of minor changes by adding particle systems and upgrading the HUD to show things like deaths by critical hits, players that are overhealed, and giving more information to medics when people are calling for them.
That's not it though, they are also working on a couple other things, including the next class pack. - The next class pack will be the Scout. One of the main goals we're focusing on for him has been to provide tools that make him useful in maps like Dustbowl & Goldrush
- We are actively working on a massive XBox 360 update, which will include pretty much everything we've shipped on the PC in the last year.
- We're also working on bringing over a variety of engine improvements from Left 4 Dead into the TF2 engine, including multicore support.
Incredible updates for Team Fortress 2. There is no date yet for this release, or the update coming to the 360 users but we will post it here as soon as we know. To see the full blog update see here.

Valve Responds on Left 4 Dead Versus Difficulty
Posted @ 10:26 AM, December 8 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Left 4 Dead
Erik Johnson has responded to the storm over Valve's decision to lock Left 4 Dead Versus difficulty at Normal. He said:
The game was built to play against other people, not fight the horde and fight other real people. Its also nearly impossible for players to know what kind of experience they are going to be getting into.
He also revealed that Valve is currently hosting around 5,000 L4D game servers that are powered by what he described as "mostly quad core CPUs in a blade setup." In other news we're still hosting one PC L4d server.

News Round Up
Posted @ 5:22 AM, December 8 2008, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead, Mods, Steam Games
It has come to my attention that a few pieces of news have managed to slip through the gaps here at halflife2.net, I am taking it upon myself to rectify that. Mod newsThere has been a massive media update for Sven Co-Op, you can find all the latest media on their web site. There are in-game shots of a whole host of new weapons, they include an electrified crowbard. I wouldn't want to get hit by that! Great to see one of the great original Half-Life mods still going strong. Steam GamesOvergrowth is an interesting indie game I myself have been keeping my eyes on, and I was extremely pleased to read that it will be coming to Steam. This really is one of the best things about Steam, some great indie games get to be released to a wider audience. I hope these guys have some success when the game is released. There is also a new piratey game on Steam going by the name of Buccaneer. Selling for $19.99 you can explore the Caribbean in over 50 single-player missions and compete with against up to 18 other people in the multiplayer. In ClosingThat is about it I think for now, though one last thing. If you didn't know, Mike Patton, of Faith no More and Mr Bungle fame did some voice acting in Portal and Left 4 Dead. There is a nifty interview with him right here where he touches on these topics. Also an interesting insight into the life of a video game voice actor. Now go about your usual day-to-day business eh?

Half-Life 2 Short Stories News
Posted @ 9:43 AM, December 7 2008, By: AciD In News
The Half-Life 2 Short Stories team have announced their third short story - Midnight Sun. This is their third chapter in the series being developed, the other two we've previously mentioned being Human Error and Paradigm Decay. Midnight Sun puts players in the role of a mercenary employed by an elusive third-party to unearth the corporate secrets of one of Black Mesa's competitors – now being plundered by the Combine in a blasted, remote wilderness.
You will be glad to know that Midnight Sun is created by our local resident Pi-Mu-Rho. Progress on HLSS and their other episodes can been found on the Half-Life Short Stories website.

Left 4 Dead Blog Update: The Intro Movie
Posted @ 11:26 AM, December 5 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In Left 4 Dead
The Left 4 Dead blog as been updated with the process the development team went through creating the introductory opening sequence we see in the Left 4 Dead trailers and when we open the game, setting the scene on the 'No Mercy' rooftop. They outline how it was new territory for the team since no other Valve games has a movie-like intro, and they had to go through a few drafts before getting to the well polished version which was released. Check out the blog to see the actual draft movies created and how things progressively improved. Most notably you'll see the old character skins, no lip syncs, some awful ideas, lack of animations and a ridiculous relationship vibe between Zoey and Francis (thankfully which was cut!). Really interesting to see the changes. Left 4 Dead blog.
