Posted @ 10:29 AM, November 28 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In Mods

The next version promised to bring new maps, changes, improvements and fixes but with SteamWorks powering this release will we see the integration of of Dystopia into Steam fully. You will be able to directly download the modification through Steam, which will also include a planned 52 achievements as well as an advanced statistics system, providing players with incredibly detailed figures and charts on their gameplay, far more advanced than those in TF2.

The team have created a video showcasing their "Statistics & Information System 2.0", as well as a selection of achievement icons which can all be seen on the Dystopia official website. There is a lot of information, so head on over there to check it out! We will keep you posted on the official release.

More Left 4 Dead Reviews
Posted @ 11:30 PM, November 24 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Left 4 Dead

Left 4 Dead reviews have been overwhelmingly positive over the last week, with a score of 88% at Metacritic as of today.
G4 TV 5/5
Fast zombies? Check. Non-stop tension and intensity? Check. The quality of gameplay we expect from Valve? Check. When it comes to co-op multiplayer, Valve is consistently ahead of the curve and excellent at making games that force players to work together.
PC Gamer UK 93/100
It's got all the nail-biting high tension of a control point assault/defence of Team-Fortress 2, mixed with the tightly designed levels of Half-Life 2 and the weapons of Counter-Strike. As long as they keep introducing new missions, there's no reason why it won't be sucking on your bandwidth for years to come.
IGN UK 9.2/10
One of the finest zombie games ever made, and one of the finest co-op games ever made. The potential for everything to go so, so wrong without warning, or conversely to pull off the most spectacular escapes against all odds, means this is an online shooter you can tell your finest anecdotes about without boring everyone else to tears.
Kotaku
I'm addicted. It's rare that I enjoy a game this much from the get-go. This is a brilliant, tightly executed shooter that feels fresh and exciting.
Maximum PC 10/10
Left 4 Dead didn't just meet our high expectations for the zombie apocalypse, it exceeded them.
GamePro (Editor's Choice Award)
I can't recommend Left 4 Dead highly enough.
Valve are extremely pleased with Left 4 Dead and the positive reviews. Also Left 4 Dead's pre-order numbers surpassed those of The Orange Box, by more than 160%.
“They Hunger” Co-op To Be Included With Sven Co-op 4.0
Posted @ 7:46 AM, November 23 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In Mods

Sven co-op are nearing the end of their development process for the updated Half-life 1 version of Sven co-op 3.0, their much anticipated Sven co-op 4.0. All sorts of new maps and features are to be included in the update, including Episode 1 of They Hunger from Black Widow Games, one of the most loved mods for Half-life. The mod has been slightly enhanced using systems integrated into SC4.0, including the major co-op addition, however BWG have promised to keep the same feel the original provided.

Episode 2 is to follow, all in the run up to their upcoming release of They Hunger: Lost Souls, the first Source version of their series. Sven Co-op 2 meanwhile, still remains hidden away in development.

Valve is in Your Head

Straight out of a med journal, Gabe Newell writes to Edge that at Valve they want to use EEG machines to monitor playtesters with. This allows them to "know for sure of something is actually frightening the player" as they monitor heart rate and breathing levels during a person's experience with the game...
Direct measurement of players' arousal states and responses to the things we're doing is super exciting. It just will allow us to be much more analytical about the decisions that we’re making and the roller coaster ride we're trying to create for the player.
In this article, Gabe explains core elements of how they put their project Left 4 Dead together. It's a very interesting read and shows just how intricate and detailed Valve really is compared to some of those other developers.
