They've had a substantial update of their website prior to this release, showcasing lots of new content and over 300 new screenshots from the mod. Also hidden amongst this are a couple of pictures of a brand new map coming along with the update called 'Exodus', see below for a couple of pictures showing off this finely polished map. A large announcement expected from Dystopia soon, we'll be keeping an ear out.

Posted @ 12:13 PM, October 25 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In News

Two guys have joined together to create 'Podcast 17' a new weekly podcast which will be summing up the weekly news for Half-life and the entire Modification scene. They will also be doing reviews, general gossip and interviews (including a couple special guests each week).

William and Phillip have released the first pilot episode talking about the format the podcast's will take, but the next episode recorded Sunday 26th will be up shortly with a large focus on the community and updates. The podcast's theme is based around the idea of an underground rebel radio station broadcasting informational transmissions to Citizens not long after the Seven Hour War. Early days yet...but a promising outlook. See the Podcast 17 website for more details.

Posted @ 1:32 PM, October 24 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In Steam Games

Valve announced today Bethesda Softworks' highly anticipated title, FalloutĀ® 3, is now available for pre-purchase via Steam. Fallout 3 features one of the most realised game worlds ever created. Set more than 200 years following a nuclear war, you can create any kind of character you want and explore the open wastes of Washington, D.C however you choose. Every minute is a fight for survival as you encounter Super Mutants, Ghouls, Raiders, and other dangers of the Wasteland. Some wise words from Gabe himself:
"Fallout 3 is one of the most important PC launches of 2008. Last year, we were able to deliver major releases such as Bioshock and Call of Duty 4 to the millions of gamers connected to Steam. With Fallout 3 added to the line up of great titles coming to Steam, this year promises to be an even better holiday season for Steam gamers."
Steam really is attracting some of the largest releases in the PC market now, it's quite a feat. Fallout 3 is available from the 31st October and available to pre-order at the price of $49.99. For more information see here.

You can see all the menus and the chapter selections as well as the achievements page. It is one good looking menu system if I may say so myself.

Steam Community: Official Groups
Posted @ 5:27 PM, October 17 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In Steam

With the recent update to Steam Community, we've seen a much nicer interface with a couple nice additions including the blotter and improved group management. Some of the sharp eyed individuals may have seen the addition of 'Official Groups' which up to this point have only been used for a few smaller titles. Tonight official groups have been unlocked for:
  • Episode 2
  • Counter Strike: Source
  • Portal
  • Team Fortress 2
  • Left 4 Dead
You can now join these new groups and join the chat rooms for the specific games, I'm certain they'll start getting busier in the next few days. They should be a great tool for large community discussions and organising of multiplayer games. (Or you could just enjoy the company of the Halflife2.net group). More to be added in the near future, see here for Official Groups.

Episode 3 – ‘Ambitious Project’
Posted @ 3:31 AM, October 17 2008, By: Evo In HL2: Episode 3

Episode 3 is an ambitious project according to Doug Lombardi who was talking to Shacknews. This, in conjunction with the work of Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2 over the past year has led to a change in the 'delta' of Episode 3.
But each of the episodes you saw becoming a more ambitious project as you ramped up towards where the finale's gonna be of this chapter. So I mean, we're taking more time because it's a more ambitious project. We also sort of had Left 4 Dead become this big thing in the middle of it that we wanted to spend more time on, and you've just got a lot of stuff that we spent this year doing with Team Fortress 2 updates and what have you. So there's just a lot going on, and then an ambitious project on top of it caused the schedule to move out a little bit from the delta of the last three releases in the franchise.
This follows on from the recent revelation that Doug hopes to reveal details on Episode 3 before the end of the year.
