Weekend Deal: Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines for $9.99
Posted @ 2:54 PM, October 31 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Steam Games

Vampire: The Masquerade- Bloodlines is now available this weekend only for $9.99, that's 50% off the regular price.
Vampire: The Masquerade-Bloodlines delivers a new type of RPG experience-one that blends all the core elements of a traditional RPG with the graphical richness, immediacy and brutal combat of a first-person action game. The game plunges players into the dark and gritty vampire underworld of modern-day L.A. as a creature of the night. Players will develop their character's powers, interact with other characters and embark on story-driven quests as they battle mortals and other vampires with an incredible array of vampire powers and weapons. Powered by Valve's Source Technology, the game is based on White Wolf's popular Vampire: The Masquerade pen-and-paper RPG series and its official clans.
I played this game and I think it's great though it's not bug-free, still it's worth playing. Click here for more info.

Left 4 Dead Dedicated Server Information
Posted @ 9:43 AM, October 31 2008, By: AciD In News

Eric Smith has released the following regarding Left 4 Dead dedicated servers:

We'll be releasing the Left 4 Dead dedicated server files prior to the Left 4 Dead demo being released. More details will be sent to the mailing lists when we have them. There are two things to keep in mind regarding running a Left 4 Dead server:

1) The CPU load for the Left 4 Dead server will be higher than you're used to for games like TF2. Left 4 Dead has a bunch of A.I. for the zombies, etc., that games like TF2 don't have.

2) Left 4 Dead uses a new matchmaking system we're developing. We'll be working with the server admin community to make sure the new system operates as smoothly as possible. More details on this later.
If you are interested with more upcoming info, you you should consider joining HLDS (Half Life Dedicated Server) mailing list.

New Steam Client Beta Adds Shopping Cart and Recommendations
Posted @ 1:43 PM, October 29 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Steam

A new beta for the Steam Client is now available. The new beta has many new additions like the support of shopping cart, recommendations & purchasing directly on the web. Check below for the full list:
  • Added shopping cart, recommendations & purchasing directly on the web
  • Added backend support for Left 4 Dead matchmaking
  • Added backend support for Steam Cloud
  • Fixed steam re-applying command line parameters (like -install) across 'change user' or 'change language' restarts
  • Fixed steam refreshing the games list, refreshing the server browser if open, and reloading server brower filter settings
  • Fixed the friends list placeholder for large clans disappearing when "view online friends only" was turned on
  • Fixed games list not always refreshing after receiving license updates
  • Fixed embedded IE control not scrolling or responding to key presses correctly
  • Improved IE control perf
And here is a little more detail on the Store related changes:
We've done a pretty big overhaul to the store and our purchasing process so that you can now purchase online over the web without even using the Steam client, and when you purchase in the client the entire payment/checkout path is in the web control, instead of in a client wizard dialog.

We've also added shopping carts, online account creation, account history, and recommendations to the store.

If you were planning to buy a game, please try it with the new system and give us feedback on how the purchase path works for you.

If you'd like to checkout the new store outside of the client you can use this URL to opt into the new store while in a web browser:

http://store.steampowered.com/?webbasedpurchasing=1 Also, if you are outside the US you'll notice we haven't translated all the new strings yet and they show in English. We should be able to update with translated strings soon (before the beta is set live for everyone).
To access the Beta, go to File -> Settings, and on the Account tab will be a drop down. Select Steam Client Candidate, and then allow Steam to restart itself. Have fun testing :)
Dude, Where’s My Thumb? – Valve’s Left 4 Dead Contest
Posted @ 4:41 PM, October 28 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In News

The contest challenges gamers to take a creative photograph of themselves in front of one of the outdoor media placements in London, New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area. All entries will be reviewed and judged by Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. The top 25 entrants will win a free copy of Left 4 Dead, and the overall winner will receive a new gaming PC from AMD.
"Working with Gibson Media to infect buses, train stations, highways and city streets in many major metropolitan areas in the US and UK has been a tremendous contribution to the game's pre-launch momentum. Pre-orders are now running 95% over those of The Orange Box, and we're getting set to launch the pre-release demo and television campaign to further fuel this momentum."

Empire: Total War is coming to Steam in exactly 3 months, 2 weeks, 3 days and 4 hours from now (Feb 6, 2009), and if you pre-order ($49.99) now you will get "Rome Total War Gold Edition" for free today.
Empire: Total War introduces a host of revolutionary new features, including true 3D naval combat. For the first time in the Total War series, you will be able to intuitively command single ships or vast fleets upon seascapes rich with extraordinary water and weather effects that play a huge role in your eventual glorious success or ignominious defeat. After pummelling your enemy with cannon fire, close in to grapple their ship and prepare to board, taking control of your men as they fight hand-to-hand on the decks of these wooden behemoths.
Empire: Total War will incorporate Steamworks giving players game updates, downloadable content, friend-list support and achievements. To play single-player Empire: Total War, players need only to connect to the internet once via the Steam client after installing the game. (thanks Sierra Oscar for the heads-up)
Steamworks will serve as Empire: Total War's multiplayer backend, providing server browsing and match-making functionality, bolstering Total War's new level of commitment to multiplayer game modes and features. Further details on multiplayer will be announced soon.
I think this is a great offer and you should not miss it. Click Here for more info.
First Look at Dead Air
Posted @ 8:11 AM, October 28 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Left 4 Dead

Gamespot took an exclusive look at the third movie (campaign) in Left 4 Dead, Dead Air.
This session with Left 4 Dead was unique in that we had the chance to play a single movie in two very different ways: once in single-player on a PC, and a second time with four people on the Xbox 360. In single-player, your teammates are replaced by AI-controlled bots. Oddly enough, this situation proves to be far more survival-friendly than playing with human teammates. Aside from having a bit of trouble recognizing the dangers of fire and wasting their ammo by shooting zombies near a pipe bomb you've just thrown, the AI teammates are very helpful and good at sticking close by your side. We had a much easier time making it to the end without all that pesky human error getting in the way, but at the same time that sense of human cooperation is what makes Left 4 Dead so much fun.
