Why no PS3 Left 4 Dead?
Posted @ 12:57 PM, August 31 2008, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead
Chet Faliszek has provided Kotaku with a brief summary of why there isn't a PS3 version of Left 4 Dead at the moment. Faliszek said that it's mostly a matter of development time. Creating the Xbox 360 version of the game is close enough to creating the PC version that it's "almost like pushing an A button," he said. The PS3 version, though, essentially requires starting from scratch. More information including a mini-lowdown on how the 360 version plays right here.

No Cut Scenes in Left 4 Dead
Posted @ 12:53 PM, August 31 2008, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead
It has been confirmed on Kotaku (reporting from PAX) that Left 4 Dead is going to be cut scene free, but will have three times as much dialogue than Half-Life 2. There will be a short introduction to the game which will be created by those behind the Team Fortress 2 cut scenes and trailers. Chet Faliszek had this to say on the matter: "We didn't want to have the game game gummed up with a story line," Faliszek said. "We wanted to keep it really clean and tight. A zombie apocalypse."
"It's about killing zombies, not some fable on the reconstruction of humanity." For more information on Left 4 Dead cut scenes and story lines head on over here.

Left 4 Dead – 360 Previews and Gameplay Videos
Posted @ 4:23 PM, August 29 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Left 4 Dead
Gamespy have a new preview for Left 4 Dead from the Penny Arcade Expo and they go hands-on with the Xbox 360 version of the game and the new matchmaking and achievement details.
the controls feel like they are pretty solid, although it did take a little time to get used to some of the difference between Left 4 Dead and other shooters. The sticks control your movement and aiming, while the right trigger is used to fire your equipped weapon. Hitting the left trigger will pull off a quick melee attack, while pressing the B button will allow you to reload your weapon. When you need to open or close doors, pressing the X button will perform that action, while you can use the Y button to switch weapons (you can carry either one or two pistols as your secondary weapon, and they'll never run out of ammo). Finally, the A button will make your character jump, and clicking the right analog stick will allow you to zoom, although the hunting rifle is the only weapon that supports this.
The second preview on the net is from 1UP. They spent a day at Valve's offices playing Left 4 Dead and said that Valve will be running dedicated servers on Microsoft's Live online service. Splitscreen play will also allow you and a friend to play together on Live from one 360, and you'll be able to slice the screen whichever way you like -- horizontally or vertically.
Here are some of the other details they picked up:
- There are four campaigns, with five chapters each
- The hospital level seen in demos is based on Philadelphia
- Another level is based on Pittsburgh (evidently Valve has some Steelers fans)
- Other levels cover a small town and an airport
- Achievements are based on social engineering ideas and we got a couple of them:
"Bite your tongue" - Kill Smoker (Enemy with prehensile tongue) before he can pull you in.
"Sharp Shooter" - Complete Co-op chapter without any friendly fire
Gameplay Videos:
Awesome Left 4 Dead day.

Team Fortress 2 Updates Coming To Xbox 360 Later This Year, Gonna Cost You
Posted @ 6:37 PM, August 22 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Team Fortress 2
Looks like 360 gamers will finally get their Team Fortress 2 updated, that means new, class-specific Achievements, new unlockable weapons for the Pyro, Medic and Heavy, new gameplay modes and new maps, all on your Xbox 360. The down side is Valve being forced to charge for the update.
Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi got that piece of business out of the way just before our latest Left 4 Dead demo, saying that the developer wanted to build up a massive update for Xbox 360 users before delivering. Given that Valve is being forced to charge for the update, they wanted to ensure that 360 owners were getting their money's worth.
I'm sure it's gonna worth it. Oh and still no word on the PS3 version.

Steam is The Only Way To Buy Silent Hill: Homecoming on PC
Posted @ 6:25 PM, August 22 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Steam, Steam Games
Konami has revealed that Steam is " the only method of distribution" for Silent Hill: Homecoming on the PC. Konami currently has no plans for a retail box version, which certainly is an interesting strategy.
The game is coming next month for North America only and Europe will apparently need to wait until later in '08.

GC08: New Gabe Newell Interview
Posted @ 12:35 PM, August 21 2008, By: DigiQ8 In HL2: Episode 3, Left 4 Dead, News, Team Fortress 2
Videogaming247 had an interview the Valve's boss Gabe Newell to talk about Left 4 Dead, Episode Three ,peer-to-peer functionality, how Steam is planned to contain apps like Firefox, and how the Wii is awesome.
Functionality and services.
One of the things we’d like to do is to understand what types of applications people have on their PCs. For example, if a whole bunch of people are running Firefox, then make sure that’s one of the applications they can get through Steam.
There are community features that we want to continue to add. There’s peer-to-peer functionality: the community has this tremendous amount of bandwidth. There’s a whole bunch of content that they’re downloading right now, and being able to replicate that throughout the community using peer-to-peer would be a really good idea. What they need is a structured interface on top of that so they can find the content that everybody’s already downloading. Those are the kind of things we’re looking at.
