Mike Patton on Valve Voice Acting
Posted @ 5:57 AM, July 25 2008, By: Evo In Left 4 Dead, Portal

Most of you will know Mike Patton as being a great singer for Faith No More, however did you know he was also involved in Portal and will be again involved in Left 4 Dead? Well you do now. In this interview with The A.V. Club Patton reveals some interesting stuff about his work with games in general as well as the Valve connection.

AVC: You also had a brief appearance in Portal, the Valve game, and there's talk about you perhaps appearing in their game Left 4 Dead.

MP: I think what they did is they took some material that I'd already recorded for Portal—maybe it was vice versa. Basically that came out of the same session of work.

Shacknews Left 4 Dead Preview
Posted @ 5:48 PM, July 15 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Left 4 Dead

Shacknews have the first E3 preview for Left 4 Dead, It seems the infected side is still unplayable so don't expect any Infected gameplay videos.
As we last heard, the game's content is essentially done, with the project now in Valve's rigorous playtesting and tweaking period. Though the playable undead were sadly MIA for this year's E3 showing, I was surprised to see just how much the game had changed in a little over a month since I last got my hands on it.
Faliszek also clarified that, as with previous builds, characters will be assigned to players randomly upon joining a game. And as expected, the two-player split-screen multiplayer mode remains restricted to the Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead and will not appear on the PC. Other changes to this latest build appear to be the usual steps towards a polished presentation come the game's eventual release. One substantial change is the visual effects enacted when "slimed" by the lumbering, bloated Boomer—where previous builds merely employed a semi-transparent texture over the player's field of view, the new visual effects obscure and warp your vision, making it much more difficult to tell the difference between friendlies and the teeming horde.

Pirates, Vikings & Knights II Beta 2.1 is Coming This Week
Posted @ 3:41 PM, July 13 2008, By: DigiQ8 In News

The team behind PVKII announced that the new Beta 2.1 is ready for this week release, the new version will include new game modes and fixes. Look below:
  • Holy Grail now replaces all Booty Tag maps. Players fight as a team to take control of the grail. The grail will give the player who holds it special buffs which will also be given to nearby teammates. The counter for your team shows how many kills you need to achieve while buffed by the grail. End the round in victory when your counter reaches zero.
  • Last Team Standing is a new round based game mode. Players all spawn at the beginning of the round and work together to kill off all enemies before the timer runs out. When the timer reaches zero, Sudden Death begins. There's no telling what may happen during sudden death, so you had best kill off all players on the opposing teams as quickly as possible!
  • Objective Push is a new, mapper controlled game mode. Mappers will have almost complete control over this game mode, setting up objectives and time limits. Certain teams will defend while the others attack, trying to complete all of their objectives in the allotted time frame. Failure to do so will result in the defending team's victory! Any entity with an output function will be able to act as an objective, so believe me when I say mappers will have a lot of control!
  • Can No longer steal a player's weapon after killing them.
  • Can no longer move on ladders while reloading crossbow/blunderbuss
  • Team balance no longer counts as suicide.
  • fixed Heavy Knight swing sometimes cancelling after using special.
  • Added Round Draw support to all game modes.
Beta 2.1 is currently in content lock and we expect it to be released this week.
