Gold Rush Update is Now Available
Posted @ 8:07 PM, April 29 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Team Fortress 2

The Gold Rush update is now available for download (free), The Gold Rush Update introduces the new Gold Rush map and Payload gameplay style, the first set of unlockable weapons, and a new set of achievements for the Medic.
Gold Rush is an entirely new level featuring a new gameplay style called Payload. The level is split into three separate areas with intermediate capture zones inside of each major chapter. The teams are split between offense (Blu) and defense (Red) similar to Dustbowl. The goal for the Blu team is to push the bomb payload through the level until it reaches the next capture point, eventually destroying all three of Red's major bases. Blu pushes the cart through the level by standing near it, and the cart will move faster the more people are standing near it. If no one has pushed the cart forward after 30 seconds, the cart will begin to move backward until it is pushed forward again.
In other news, a worldwide Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend will begin Friday at noon PDT,and will include access to the new content released today in the TF2. All of the files needed to join the Free Weekend are available for pre-loading now.

Neowin.net : Team Fortress 2 Update Coming April 29th
Posted @ 5:54 PM, April 27 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Team Fortress 2

Neowin.net had the opportunity to visit Valve offices last Friday and play Goldrush and the Medic, They also reported that the new update will be released this Tuesday, April 29th though the console version still doesn't have a release date yet.
Goldrush is a map specifically focused on pacing, so the player feels like they are part of an overall team focus instead of being a lone wolf. Each member of the team naturally has to focus on both the overall goal of either advancing or stopping the payload, but also on the local threats, like that heavy backed up by a medic. Goldrush has been designed taking all nine classes into account, which means there is truly a place for everyone and their favorite class to be useful.
Screenshots and a detailed list of the achievements coming soon on Neowin.net.
No Portal This Year – Lombardi
Posted @ 4:49 AM, April 26 2008, By: Evo In Portal

Portal was released last year and received great critical reviews and many gamers fell in love with the game, the Weighted Companion Cube became an overnight success, as did the game. Earlier this year it was let slip that Portal 2 was a certainty. Now Doug Lombardi has informed Eurogamer that we shouldn't expect to see any more Portal this year.

"In typical Valve tradition, it won't be Portal with different colours," said Lombardi, dressed as a companion cube. "I think that when you hit something like that, you have two choices: you can quickly replicate it and stick it out there - do the opportunistic thing and cash in on it; or you can do the crazy thing like we did after Half-Life was so successful and go off and try and say, 'Okay, that was revolutionary, so its successor has to be equally as revolutionary.'

"That's the spirit I think we're approaching it in," he added. "You won't see a new Portal at retail this Christmas because of that. That's the trade off. People want more, but we don't want to give them more of the same right away because that would just be boring."

Firearms: Source Update
Posted @ 4:58 AM, April 25 2008, By: Evo In Mods

There is a very big update from the Firearms: Source team which is primarily showing off ps_forest which is a new map from the team. ps_forest has 100% Firearms: Source made assets. There is not a touch of Valve stuff in there.

Today's post is our official showcase of Airwolf's ps_forest. But before I get into that too much, I want to post something that I've been meaning to hit on for a few months and just keep forgetting about - and that would be the interview the current Firearms: Half-Life Team Leader did with our art lead, Shinobi, and I. Actually, it's a little more than an interview; it's an interview with a lot of extra information and a few screenshots. He took a lot of time out of his day putting this together and I'd be doing his efforts a disservice if I didn't make a link for our fans to read. Firearms: Source, Anatomy of a Mod.

Steam and The Rest of The World
Posted @ 7:27 AM, April 19 2008, By: DigiQ8 In Steam

CNet.com.au posted a good article about Steam and the users outside of North America who have been on the receiving end of some pretty questionable treatment from the big publishers for a while now, like limited releases to NA region or over priced games.
Ubisoft: "Ubisoft is still studying the different options concerning the digital market and official announcements on this subject could be made in the coming months."

THQ AU: "Unfortunately we are unable to comment on the situation with Steam at this stage."

Sega AU: "We honestly have nothing to do with Steam here in Australia."

Atari AU: "This is a US deal with Steam done by Atari Inc and has nothing to do with Atari Australia." Kotaku AU got a bit more of an answer, managing to get it's "US-only due to licensing agreements".

2k Games AU: 2k Australia forwarded a request to 2k US, but we're still awaiting a response. According to Kotaku AU, the games catalogue used to be there and is coming back eventually.

Rockstar: No response.
You can read the article here. And if you looking for a solution you can join "Rest of the World" group, they have now over 4136 members. Join this group to show publishers that you want their games in your country! I just did!

1UP Show Plays Goldrush and New Medic Weapons
Posted @ 8:53 PM, April 18 2008, By: Hectic Glenn In Team Fortress 2

Not much more to say that! This video shows off all 3 new variations of the medics new weapons, with the ability to activate a new uber that provides purely critical hits, the new needle gun which sucks health from the enemy it hits, and the uber generating bonesaw. (As we've seen the past few days). From the gameplay footage it really shows off how fun these additions are going to be. Goldrush also looks superb, the video shows how the cart provides health as it moves along and is ideal for mobile cover. Video well worth watching.

All Team Fortress 2 related footage starts about 9 minutes and 30 seconds into the video - http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3167461
